lily!
[Goldensky Seas] i'd just like to thank You're Quinner Where Is Harkan for giving me enough of a kick in the ass to write 4k words of fiction in a single sitting also jesus fucking christ
lily!
this is... UNBELIEVABLY rough since i didn't stop to eat or get up the entire time i was writing this but it sure exists Prologue?
lily!
if i actually make this a thing i'm probably going to scrap this entire chapter
lily!
it just doesn't fit well narratively speaking and it's kinda awkward overall
lily!
very... video game-y in a bad way i think?
You're Quinner
this is definitely the most writing I've seen done for an OC thing I had a hand in
You're Quinner
so I will read it tomorrow
lily!
good choice that gives me time to edit it since this is fucking CRIMINALLY rough
lily!
this was really more of an exercise into like
lily!
getting into sevka's head and setting the stage and the stakes of the story
lily!
sorting out some background details etc.
lily!
figuring out what the world actually looks like right now and where sevka is at
Where Is Harkan
I will read this when I am feeling a bit less headachy because this is wild
lily!
i kinda wrote myself into a corner with the initial pitch because i described her as a very quiet, reserved person who speaks softly and isn't super bombastic and if it wasn't for how she's a guardian she wouldn't be very memorable
lily!
which is a much more difficult kind of protagonist to pull off in written fiction as opposed to stuff with visual elements because you lose an element of character acting which makes that archetype work
lily!
so this "prologue" (again if i make this an extended thing i'm probably going to scrap it to start in a more interesting place rather than 50
lily!
percent of it being discussion about tactics that was primarily used to worldbuild) is me figuring out how to make someone who talks casually most of the time and carefully considers most of her actions and isn't super emotional an interesting read
lily!
and i think for that purpose i did... mostly well? her voice is still kinda evading me but i'm getting closer
lily!
my instinct is to go back and edit this but i think i'm going to not do that actually
lily!
for the reasons that i just described lingering on this bit would be an exercise in frustration
lily!
woof yeah definitely need to make a different opening chapter on another read
You're Quinner
So the immediate thing I feel obligated to point out is that, at least in my understanding of the setting
You're Quinner
the Call of Leviathan was for the gods, not everyone
You're Quinner
otherwise everyone on the archipelago would have drowned
lily!
yeah, the basic idea of the people going out to sea is that for various reasons they want to explore the archipelago and figure out what remains of it
You're Quinner
oh ok
lily!
For glory and gold, or to find answers, or to fix things. it's not a compulsion
lily!
a big thing with this prologue is that I got hit by Bramant apparently pursuing a "war of subjugation" which would obviously have pretty big consequences for the world beyond the archipelago
lily!
after I finished I realized that I could find different ways to set the stakes outside the archipelago instead of starting in a relatively boring place which is part of the reason why I decided to scrap this bit
lily!
I still decided to show it so that I could get a better handle on Sevka's voice
dragon time
Mythscarred is a good word
lily!
dragon time : The basic idea for them is that since Bramant lived in stories and is the very image of the Goodly God-King, being in his presence while he's fucked by the Endless Dawn makes you believe in that story so hard that you become fundamentally ingrained in it.
lily!
It's scarier than the Incandescence in some ways because there's still a person in there but you just can't reach them.
