It's nearly tragic that some-unbelievable-how, the travesty of waste of celluloid that is Paul Verhoeven [:spit:]'s Starship Troopers, a celebration of stupidity, is now regarded as some kind of classic.

I had an interesting reaction to the much-anticipated film - I went with a geekish couple of friends, and spoke over TGIFriday's afterwards about our unsettlement. The longer I was out of that cinema, the angrier I got about the film, and not just in comparison to the novel.

It was, and is, a bad movie.

"Verhoeven’s film comes off not too dissimilarly from what one might expect of a Michael Bay film, except less subtle in every way." (LOL)

It is a celebration of stupid, amoral characters - just like ALL of his films.
