Zigzag Stampede
I hate the rhetoric around jobs in general. This automated email I get each week always annoys me with the language it uses.
Zigzag Stampede
"Quiet Days" is what it calls my time outside of work.
Zigzag Stampede
But I don't like that term. Like: oh, you're quiet you could be doing more.
Zigzag Stampede
Look at all this free time you have. When it shouldn't be expected that I work more outside of my normal hours.
Zigzag Stampede
It should be seen as a bad thing. Not just a thing that happens or something I should be filling my days more with
Zigzag Stampede
This isn't even a my job thing. This is more the company that bought my workplace. It just... I don't like how important getting a job and being successful is measured in how much you put into it.
Zigzag Stampede
I think working and contributing (if physically/mentally capable. I'm talking in very broad strokes.) is a good thing to strive for, but I don't like how much of the world seems to put importance on constantly working
🥧Pie-Я-Squared
That's so irritating. Like, the little bit I did get to work from home, you were expected to keep your Teams status 'green' at pretty much all times except for break/lunch. If you went 'away' for more than 5 mins, they would question your ability to function working from home.
🥧Pie-Я-Squared
Like, my gawd. We do get up and move around and are away from our desks at work, too. Sometimes we are 'away'.
serpentcyborg
Also, the people who are 'constantly working' and putting in tons of overtime don't actually get more work done
🥧Pie-Я-Squared
Whoever really thought that humans needed to work until exhaustion or else we're lazy was a good thought?
serpentcyborg
Because if you overwork yourself, you become less and less efficient
🥧Pie-Я-Squared
^^yup
serpentcyborg
In fact, if you regularly work over forty hours a week you will get less work done than someone who only works forty
serpentcyborg
And your efficiency will improve if you drop down to thirty
serpentcyborg
I hate that we live in a society that looks more at how many hours you worked than how much you got done
Zigzag Stampede
I agree with all of this so much
serpentcyborg
And expects people to throw hours of their lives away for literally no one's benefit
Zigzag Stampede
No, there is benefits to someone. Just not yourself
proтoвadger
if they want significant activity outside of working hours, they better give significant pay for it
Zigzag Stampede
I've never had it say anything differently as it's not actually linked to the software my company uses to monitor us. But I'd really hope it would say something like: you've done significant work outside of working hours STOP THAT
Zigzag Stampede
But for some reason i doubt that
papermint tiger
damn i hate that
papermint tiger
i have considered taking on extra jobs, particularly when my job wasn't paying me as much as i currently earn
papermint tiger
but man, i work my hands to the bone 10 hours a fucking day
papermint tiger
i deserve to be a 'lazy bum' the rest of the time
