that even then it still becomes futile because anyone intelligent is either not in power in any meaningful way (ie the vast majority of the population) or is randomly among the actively evil subset who are.

it’s only not futile if it makes you feel better. Although I suppose it’s possible that someone who hasn’t made up their mind might be swayed by your arguments. Sometimes you are a bit vituperative which might reduce the chance of influencing people.
