I get the sense that a lot of the point is to try to pressure ordinary Russian citizens into protesting. (Which... works better if a country doesn't tend to "disappear" protesters.)

I'm still very puzzled at Ukrainian border guards making it hard for non-European to cross the border, especially when it doesn't sound like they'd be interfering with European Ukrainians crossing

European countries making it difficult/inconvenient/uncomfortable for refugees from outside Europe to enter, that's nothing new, but I really don't get being abusing when they're trying to leave, especially if the bordering countries aren't making any fuss about it
