Lea
Names...

Lea
I do not give out my IRL name online. Ever. I haven't done so in about two decades I'm not about to start now.

Lea
"Lea" is an abbreviation of my first internet handle, Leareth, which was the name of the villain of one of my favorite book series, The Last Herald-Mage by Mercedes Lackey. This is also the series that introduced me to the concept of gayness.

Lea
Seriously I was quite young (like, eleven, I think) when I read it, it was still the 90s, and it took me some time to realize that what the main character was experiencing was even possible.

Lea
So yeah, this series affected me greatly. Why the name of the villain and not the hero? Honestly I just thought "Leareth" (which I always pronounced "Lee-air-eth") sounded cool.

Lea
Eventually I decided to cut off the obvious link, which was easy enough by just dropping the last few letters, and I've been Lea ever since.

Lea
Notably, I did this before Days was released, and I've always been mildly perturbed at Axel as a result.

meownigishi
wow not joining the cool kids club by doxing ourselves online?

meownigishi
smh

meownigishi
i think i have that book somewhere around my house

meownigishi
i never read it though

Lea
It was released in 1990, I think, and it definitely shows, but I fucking loved it and it still stands as one of my favorites.

Lea
The main lead is a fucking amazing pretty-boy super magician who would be the world's biggest Gary Stu if so much of the series wasn't about life hurting him brutally.

Lea
He gets chosen to be a magic hero defender of the kingdom in a world where A: that's basically a job there's plenty of other people doing it, and B: it usually means a harrowing life and an early grave.

Lea
(He's no exception)

BloodCri
That sounds like an interesting book

Lea
Interesting trilogy, actually! Lackey tends to do those.

Lea
Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, Magic's Price.

BloodCri
I'm always looking for stuff to read

Mega
Haha, also not giving my real name. But I can see why the KH stuff would be funny XD

Lea
It came out like, a year after I'd started mostly going by Lea, and I was just like "are you kidding me"
