D&D nerds: I seek your guidance/opinion [spoilers for Avernus]

So my character was the lucky son of a gun who picked up the Sword of Avernus.

BUT

she WAS a Zariel tiefling

and. (I have no idea if this is in the module but!!!) we managed to redeem Zariel

(we also might have destabilized Avernus and possibly set up the return of Tiamat but... these things happen)

SO! she is both now an aasimar. and... all the effects of the Sword of Zariel.

to start with, my tiefling was a paladin of Tymora

and she had a very specific reason for that, how that worked, etc.

but! her personality is shifting due to the sword.

her alignment is shifted in a way that's... gonna be different

FROM NOW ON: do I take Paladin levels? OR

...should I be taking WARLOCK levels?

and if so? would it make more sense to do _Celestial_ warlock or a slightly reflavored _Hexblade_ ?

(purely from a story/character view; I'm not worried about combat viability)

Hmm. Yeah, the sowrd definitely makes continuing as a Paladin of Tymora difficult or impossible. If the current Oath still works for Zariel, I don't see a reason why you couldn't just continue on. Though the other two would make very interesting choices.

I'd think Warlock. I looked up some stuff and I think going for either works, depending. You can do Celestial/pack of the blade, maybe? I always viewed hexblade as "pact with the entity behind the sword" but I don't have the book to know who made the sword to give advice on Hexblade options.

Shard : she’s Oath of Vengeance (one of her party members fell to Strahd previously) so...

And like I said it’s not like... I can’t? I’m just thinking like.. story-wise is she really learning how to be a better paladin or to adjust to this new giant change in her energy?

La Comtesse : Hexblade is about a specific kind of blade but I feel like reflavoring that fits slightly better for this sword? Also Celestial overlaps a lot on what she’s already got but I could definitely see both working
