The only one making this shit political is you assholes who can't leave well enough alone and have to stick your noses into laws and regulations and make shit harder for us.
My forever gripe is either the assumption that minorities existing in media is political, or the opinion that minorities should exist in media for the sake of making political commentary or "educating" the majority.
Some people are small and petty and scared all the time and living in a world where people talk about things that aren’t their experience is hard for them and I don’t have much sympathy for that. Be better, assholes. Literally none of it is hurting you.
Basically it boils down to: Sadie's character is pandering bc it doesn't make sense that she can kick ass like she can but also she's just unhinged and unreasonable (which I don't necessarily disagree with but that's also kind of the point of her character and that's a whole other can of worms) whereas Arthur and John are better than everyone else
and that's fine and they're so cool and so badass when actually the lesson of their games is closer to "people do bad shit when they're desperate" so John and Arthur's brand of 'badass' isn't actually a thing to be applauded and put on a pedestal.
John Marston is badass in Red Dead 1 because he's terrified and desperate that he won't get to see his family again like. Appreciate it all you want, I do too, but why do you laud this and not all the other sides of him that he shows when he's actually happier
ALSO: Because Sadie Adler is a woman who can fight, people automatically assume she's a Strong Independent Woman TM when really she's not meant to be Goals or anything she's just another example of a tragic story and the shit people do when desperate and grieving and lost.
And I'm so frustrated about people putting John and Arthur on pedestals and shoving Sadie into the dirt and not seeing their similarities and appreciating their characters for what they are and
god that's so true, we pour so much about ourselves into creative media and then school is like "movies are for substitute teacher days and literature is for the artsy fartsies who couldn't pass sciences"
Parents: Schools shouldn't teach sex ed and LGBTQ+ and stuff that should be up to the parents! Also parents: Wait no stop putting sex and queer in media I don't want to answer my kids' questions.
better that they're taught something is wrong so that they can turn against that belief, imo, never hearing about it at all just makes a kid think they're the only one and creates a very dangerous kind of desperate sadness
it's kinda like how my mom was raised in an environment that was totally tight-lipped about mental illness because traditionally it would be blamed on the parents for how they raised their kid. by breaking that silence, she made it so that i didn't just think "i'm completely wrong in the head and it must be a flaw that cannot be overcome"
Also parents: Wait no stop putting sex and queer in media I don't want to answer my kids' questions.
