The older I get the more aggressively queer I become.
Toss
Today's fury: Queer characters by themselves are not political because my existence is not political.
Toss
Shut the fuck up about how Clark Kent's son being bi is political.
Shaebells
Mood
Toss
The only one making this shit political is you assholes who can't leave well enough alone and have to stick your noses into laws and regulations and make shit harder for us.
Toss
I used to be a pretty quiet gay but you lot are pissing me off.
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
Good for you, good for you
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
also truo
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
*true
SKELEREN
OH can I chime in: trans headcanons aren't all "AU" bc you can't prove all characters are cis to start with
Toss
Preach
SKELEREN
i completely agree with you ofc, queer characters existing is not political
SKELEREN
bc queer people just exist in real life! gasp! imagine
Toss
Amazing isn't it
Toss
My forever gripe is either the assumption that minorities existing in media is political, or the opinion that minorities should exist in media for the sake of making political commentary or "educating" the majority.
Jemisaur
I get more aggressively queer and more aggressively goth and punk.
Toss
Good
SKELEREN
and also holding anything a minority character or creator touches to a way higher standard
SKELEREN
like if that bi superman book isn't somehow perfect it will prove that bi superman shouldn't exist??? wrong
Toss
Yep
unoiled snake
this plurk is good
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
trans headcanons are also the shit, so any complain is just white noise to me
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
the more the better

Some people are small and petty and scared all the time and living in a world where people talk about things that aren’t their experience is hard for them and I don’t have much sympathy for that. Be better, assholes. Literally none of it is hurting you.
Toss
This is the kind of energy I'm here for.

gas giant
it's sad how behind the human race is on some of this stuff because WOMEN in movies are still political if they hold certain roles
gas giant
and especially women involved in the making of movies who are proud of breaking ground
gas giant
how dare they celebrate their own achievements that's feminist
Toss
Oh god don't even get me started.
Toss
shoves all my frustration about Sadie Adler, John Marston and Arthur Morgan under the carpet
gas giant
don't rage so hard it rebounds on you and hurts you, but i do like your rage
Toss
I HAVE OTHER SHIT TO DO but I scream
Toss
Basically it boils down to: Sadie's character is pandering bc it doesn't make sense that she can kick ass like she can but also she's just unhinged and unreasonable (which I don't necessarily disagree with but that's also kind of the point of her character and that's a whole other can of worms) whereas Arthur and John are better than everyone else
Toss
and that's fine and they're so cool and so badass when actually the lesson of their games is closer to "people do bad shit when they're desperate" so John and Arthur's brand of 'badass' isn't actually a thing to be applauded and put on a pedestal.
Toss
John Marston is badass in Red Dead 1 because he's terrified and desperate that he won't get to see his family again like. Appreciate it all you want, I do too, but why do you laud this and not all the other sides of him that he shows when he's actually happier
Toss
ALSO: Because Sadie Adler is a woman who can fight, people automatically assume she's a Strong Independent Woman TM when really she's not meant to be Goals or anything she's just another example of a tragic story and the shit people do when desperate and grieving and lost.
Toss
tragic story about the shit*
Toss
Which is just like. A theme of the Red Dead games in general.
Toss
And I'm so frustrated about people putting John and Arthur on pedestals and shoving Sadie into the dirt and not seeing their similarities and appreciating their characters for what they are and
Toss
augh
Toss
This is why schools need to teach literature and subtext I s2g.
Toss
So many people cannot read between the lines for shit.
gas giant
god that's so true, we pour so much about ourselves into creative media and then school is like "movies are for substitute teacher days and literature is for the artsy fartsies who couldn't pass sciences"
Toss
Toss
And on that note MOVIES AND GAMES ARE LITERATURE TOO
Toss
Stop putting on movies and then just not discussing them afterwards.
Toss
Treat them like pieces of literature.
Toss
Because they fucking are.
gas giant
literally would solve all issues of violence and sex and whatever else people object to having in media
gas giant
worried about what your kids take in? talk to them abt it
Toss
Oops teacher rage activated

Toss
But Jupiter that would mean they'd have to parent their kids.
Toss
How could you ask that of them.
gas giant
SO MANY PEOPLE CAN BE INVOLVED IN TEACHING KIDS ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND THEM AND SO FEW PEOPLE WANT TO
Toss
Parents: Schools shouldn't teach sex ed and LGBTQ+ and stuff that should be up to the parents!
Also parents: Wait no stop putting sex and queer in media I don't want to answer my kids' questions.
Toss
IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Toss
It takes a gd village
gas giant
i literally thought that just as it popped up here, yes yes yes
Toss
Not that I actually really want homophobic parents to teach their kids about LGBTQ+ because we all know what they're gonna teach but you know
gas giant
better that they're taught something is wrong so that they can turn against that belief, imo, never hearing about it at all just makes a kid think they're the only one and creates a very dangerous kind of desperate sadness
gas giant
i mean neither option is GOOD but
gas giant
it's kinda like how my mom was raised in an environment that was totally tight-lipped about mental illness because traditionally it would be blamed on the parents for how they raised their kid. by breaking that silence, she made it so that i didn't just think "i'm completely wrong in the head and it must be a flaw that cannot be overcome"
gas giant
instead i wound up with "what specific thing is going on in there that no one can find"
Toss
Ah, yeah. Good point.
gas giant
i hate having to make concessions like that but jfc, we're navigating a hideous world
Toss
Ain't that the truth
𝔂𝓾𝓶𝓲
I feel this plurk so much.
Mυrder Mυғғιɴ
On that note, this poem has been living in my head rent free.
Toss
Oof that's good.
Mυrder Mυғғιɴ
Yes it makes me
