bought socks at Target, but they only had crew style athletic socks in black? all the rest were low-cut or no-show. I don't get it

have women's socks somehow become undergarments that are supposed to be hidden and I just never heard about it?

yeah, they are awful. I feel like people designing them cannot have ever tried to actually wear them

I think the key is to buy socks with patterns

but IME, those tend to be really thin and hence not great for fitness walking

I bought the black ones and I guess it doesn't really matter, but it seems weird to have black athletic socks :/ it feels like this is another garment ruined for women and i guess in future I will look for socks in the boys section
