JingleBells
[RL] So I spoke to the principal and they're going to fix it so I was here on Wedneday
JingleBells
even if I wasnt ; I was up and did text about coming in
JingleBells
and then found out I was supposed too even with the strike happening
JingleBells
papermint tiger
i'm so glad they're doing that for you
papermint tiger
/hugs
papermint tiger
i hope this gets over with soon
JingleBells
hugs
JingleBells
I hope so too
JingleBells
from my understanding theres a lot of paranoia and covid fatigue
JingleBells
and they're all talking about the numbers and those are those numbers of the unvaccinated
JingleBells
90 % of the CPS teacher teachers city wide are vaccinted
JingleBells
its getting more the kids their vaccines which shouldnt be an issue but it is
JingleBells
even of most of us grew up with you get the basic 3 shot booster or no school
JingleBells
which is how I grew up
JingleBells
I dont know what happened in that time period
JingleBells
I also get that CPS is looking at when the teachers want to come back which is Jan 18th which is after MLK Day which is a high call off for Friday and Monday
JingleBells
so I get - CPS looking at the time table and not liking it
JingleBells
its all - we should have had been online at the start and not come back and have 2 days of in person and no school the rest of the week
JingleBells
I understand that the staff wants to feel safe but some things like the covid testing - thats a 3rd party
JingleBells
and every company wants the Covid testers
JingleBells
is the man power realistically there
JingleBells
papermint tiger basicaly Im hoping they calm and down and make a list and break the want list down and see what is plauisble
JingleBells
and stop pointing at each other like Toddlers on both sides
JingleBells
we are very lucky to have Covid testing once a week
JingleBells
even if the results are slow still waiting on mine from Tuesday
JingleBells
but that isnt CPS's fault
JingleBells
the 3rd party is trying to keep up with demand
𝓛unacuno
Chicago's teacher strike was on the ABC Evening News last night
𝓛unacuno
it's a big deal
JingleBells
yes because President Biden is disappointed in us
JingleBells
and like I just said
JingleBells
CPS and The MAyor and the CTU are just being toddlers and pointing fingers at each other
JingleBells
and not reasonably breaking things down
𝓛unacuno
Biden's in a bad mood. He was reminded of January 6th and went on a rant about Trump doing nothing about it
JingleBells
CTU wants better testing
JingleBells
I get it the staff wants to feel safe
JingleBells
we get testing once a week from a 3rd party
𝓛unacuno
yeah, that's what my campus does too
JingleBells
and can that 3rd party come more often?
JingleBells
maybe they cant
𝓛unacuno
my campus blocked off a whole parking lot to set up tents for COVID testing. They're open all week for students who are required to get weekly tests. But, like, they're on a University campus. They have tons of money I'm sure public school in Illinois doesn't have
JingleBells
Covid fatigue and paranoia are very high between both right now
JingleBells
Its more - every company wants Covid testers
JingleBells
and they are doing what they can with their employees the Covid testers
JingleBells
at the end of the day its how many staff do you have
JingleBells
and the demand
JingleBells
and if theres more demand than staff - its just not gonna be fast
JingleBells
like I said I got tested on Tuesday its Friday
JingleBells
you cant scream and whine about a thing if the thing just doesnt have the man power
JingleBells
but also from what Im hearing the CTU - isnt even thinking that the Covid Testers are a 3rd party
JingleBells
which that in of itself is a problem
𝓛unacuno
isn't there a shortage of tests too, or is that just in some areas?
JingleBells
we do have a shortage of take home tests
JingleBells
which in retrospect having a 3rd party come in once a week we should be grateful
JingleBells
because you cant even buy the take home at CVS, Walgreens, etc
JingleBells
but no - rather they're acting like Toddlers and the kids are missing school for 3 days
JingleBells
and they're not from what I heard; addressing the root issue that the schools should push for all kids that can to be vaccinated or you dont go to school
JingleBells
I hoping they actually talk today thats all
JingleBells
I heard that yesterday it was just a bunch of arguing from both sides
JingleBells
and not looking for common ground
JingleBells
so you know being Toddlers
Prickly Android
Toddlers have more sense.
JingleBells
LOL
JingleBells
Just glad I got paid for the whole week
JingleBells
but they need to get it together so the kids can get back to learning
Prickly Android
Yes. I've been seeing it on the news
JingleBells
also CPS isnt not in the wrong either; there are things that they could give back to the teachers that would apparently make them feel safe
JingleBells
we did an online Covid screening before work last year
JingleBells
and then a temperture check at the door
JingleBells
If that makes them feel better - do it
Prickly Android
Yeah
JingleBells
but I do feel that wanting more testing (more than once a week) is asking a lot given the supply and man power that is lacking
Prickly Android
No doubt. The shortage of testing supplies and long lines for tests are also on the news.
JingleBells
nod
JingleBells
and in the meantime the adults are pointing and screaming when we tell the kids to not solve things this way
JingleBells
><
Prickly Android
Not setting a good example.
JingleBells
nope
JingleBells
I dont back the behavior on either side
JingleBells
they should have a solution already
JingleBells
this is day three
JingleBells
and this is why its day three; neither side is trying to find a middle ground but blaming the other side
Prickly Android
Seems to reflect everything else going on too. No one wants to compromise and find solutions. They all want all of nothing. It's a sad state of affairs.
JingleBells
sigh
JingleBells
huuuuuuugs
JingleBells
also I poked you about a TL I put up last night :>
Prickly Android
Kk :-) I'll poke at you tonight after girl child is in bed. Boy child just be boy child.
JingleBells
\o
JingleBells
SIGHHHHH
JingleBells
What is common ground for 100, Alex?
JingleBells
srsly just want to cry over all this stupidity
JingleBells
but I do need to get out of this because my attention span is starting to get bad
KrisKrampus
/offers huge hug/
JingleBells
JingleBells
OH WOW
JingleBells
I called it
JingleBells
CPS officials have blamed a national labor shortage amid the pandemic for keeping the contractors from being able to hire enough custodians to fill vacancies to be able to fully staff the city’s schools and to find fill-ins when custodians are out sick.
JingleBells
I had a discussion with a staff member in real life on why some school dont have janiors
JingleBells
basically I said, people my age dont want blue collared jobs and its a storage everywhere
JingleBells
and to be honest; the lack of blue collared workers is an issue because we need plumbers and such for our society
JingleBells
so - I guess we need to hurry up with robotics or something if humans dont want these jobs
JingleBells
a lot of these blue collared workers are retiring
JingleBells
and they are not training a lot of newbies to fill their shoes
JingleBells
demand is high and resources are low
JingleBells
its good honest work and the backbone of society but humans dont want these jobs like they use too
JingleBells
this is an issue in of itself but leaks into everything
JingleBells
its not that the blue collared jobs dont exist; people just dont want to take them
JingleBells
and hopefully we never get to the point of - who's gonna wire that new building that was just built
KrisKrampus
The problem is, Boomers and GenXers have stigmatized blue collar jobs for so long, it's leading to Gen Y and Millenials not wanting to go into it, because their parents/granparents will scream at them.
papermint tiger
yeah, i was dead against getting a fast food job when i was first looking to the point i didn't even apply to them
papermint tiger
because my dad used to say that if i didn't do good in school i'd only be able to get a job at mcdonald's
papermint tiger
as if that was a threat/the worst thing ever
KrisKrampus
Ugh, indeed, and it may have also contributed to the horrible way people treat service workers.
KrisKrampus
I was lucky: my parents may be Boomers, but my dad worked in agriculture, so working with ones hands was looked on as perferctly honorable work.
Mis
Yeah, I actually considered trade school over college but was firmly discouraged. Never mind that there's big bucks in trades because it's stuff that needs to be done. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters...it's not easy work but it pays and there's an ongoing need for those workers.
JingleBells
KrisKrampus
Also, we respected service workers anyway, and due to all the war stories I've brought home of Karens and Darrens, it's lead to my folks being extra considerate of service workers.
JingleBells
and I went to a High School that was founded on the trades
JingleBells
When I went there in the early 2000s
JingleBells
They still had their shops
JingleBells
Wood, Metal, Car and Drafting
JingleBells
when I went in 2015 to sub there
JingleBells
ALL GONE
JingleBells
Green Energy, Leadership, etc
JingleBells
so now you have to find a Trade School
JingleBells
Mis that is true is it certainly not encouraged
KrisKrampus
Yeah, thank heavens the high school our town has shop classes, as there's a vocational/tech school on the other side of town.
JingleBells
but - we're gonna have to get robotics going really fast for non-sentient robots to do these
JingleBells
anyways some of these issues coming up in this fight for more things
JingleBells
Are bigger economical issues
JingleBells
its also the fact that we've learned from the Baby Boomers and Gen Xers
JingleBells
The long lasting health issues of some of these jobs
JingleBells
like truck drivers having heart issues for instance
JingleBells
because sitting for 12 hours + is very bad for you
JingleBells
which truck drivers is also a high in demand for workers
JingleBells
and hence the empty shelves or part of the reason besides the boats being docked
JingleBells
Janitors have a tendency to have back issues
JingleBells
etc
JingleBells
and part of the reason these jobs arent encouraged but they're very needed
Mis
Yeah. A lot of trades involve exposure to dangerous chemicals/substances, for example. Sawdust, asbestos, lead...
JingleBells
nod
JingleBells
but we still need the trades to run our society
Mis
Yeah, we do. And honestly, part of the problem there too is lack of support. Companies not paying for the correct safety equipment/measures...
JingleBells
Yuuuuup
JingleBells
and to make a full circle to the topic
JingleBells
starting to see the trinkle down with not all schools having a janitor
JingleBells
and stuff getting to the store shelves slower
JingleBells
and truck drivers are not encouraged given that self driving cars are in the near future
JingleBells
but its still probably going to be 5 years give or take before that
JingleBells
I have a few former truck driver friends in RL
JingleBells
they know - they know they will be replaced by a box in the near future
JingleBells
papermint tiger and they dont get paid a lot, they dont usually move up they're not good long term jobs
JingleBells
and depending on what you do - you're exposed to stuff
JingleBells
and I think we're going to see those slowly completely automated
JingleBells
I mean McDonalds has a kiosk where you touch to order for instance
JingleBells
its a matter of creating a machine that can make the food at this point really
JingleBells
Im fairly certain once they do they will fire all their cooks
JingleBells
anyways we are for sure in a state of change with jobs
