[Encanto] Watching this again and I really like how they use color to denote who's immediate family to which cousins
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
You've got Pepita/Felix/Antonio/Dolores/Camilo in warm colors, red to yellow
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Then Julieta/Agustin/Luisa/Isabela/Mirabel in teals/blues/purples
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
And then Abuela in magenta, which is adjacent to both color families
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
And Bruno in green, which is separate but related to the teal of Mirabel
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
And then Isabela is extra interesting because she's lavender, so similar cool color family but her dress changes to blue in the very last scene to make her more harmonious
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Its really masterfully done!
give me a break
oh that's awesome
give me a break
i didn't quite notice that
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
I also love the narrative foils of Abuela and Mirabel being the only ones without powers but they're also the only ones who ask the Casita for anything
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
(married in dads notwithstanding)
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
give me a break : I love it! Its something I used to do when I designed costumes for theater
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
even in college. I did a thing like that with Lysistrada so couples had matching colors
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
And I've seen Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet use costume color codes like that too
ʙɪʀᴅɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴀɢ
Its one of my favorite contrivances
