Starting my morning by taking photos of my car damage for my insurance, good morning

Honestly it's not the cost or anything I'm worried about, it's more supply chain issues/car part shortages...

The damage seems to be all cosmetic, at least. My tires are okay, the check engine light is on and my external temperature gauge seems to have been knocked out

Part of my front bumper is missing, the casing on the driver's side headlight shattered, and the grill has a big tear in it

so IDK if you want insurance advice but I am here to offer it just in case you do

I had some car repairs done last week. The supply chain issues were a challenge, but not a big problem. It just took them an extra day to find someone in state with the part and get it delivered

It's been pretty straightforward so far, I called the insurance company and they sent me a link to upload photos of the damage + shots of my car from every angle and the VIN and odometer

I am trying to look at the positives! I have enough savings to cover our deductible if need be, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my engine or anything. No broken windows or popped tires.

And last night I was able to get to a parking lot to stop and assess the damage then drive it safely home afterward. I could have been stranded on the highway which is Not Great

I have AAA in case I need a tow. And I myself was not hurt in any way.

Yeah. It's going to be frustrating being without my car, but my insurance will cover a rental, and Mama Shuri said she'd take me to work if need be

I still have no real idea WTF hit me. It was something big, dark and rectangular. It wasn't already in the road because I didn't see anybody ahead of me slowing down or trying to dodge around anything

And the cars in front of and behind me didn't seem to react at all, so likely something that was badly secured to someone's vehicle came flying off and hit my car

my one supply-chain related piece of advice is, if you can, wait to get the rental until you're sure your shop has the required parts in hand

And honestly, I might not even bother with a rental; Mama Shuri will take her baby where she needs to go

yeah. IDK how they do things in OH, but in MA, any potential surcharge resulting from an accident is determined by how much the insurance company pays out. So if you can minimize that, you can help your chances of not getting a surcharge

Makes sense

like rn my car is in the shop but thankfully we have a 3rd vehicle Derek's dad gave him for the winter

so I can avoid rental from my accident

(even though I wasn't at fault so it doesn't really matter surcharge-wise)

Mama Shuri said they may just want me to take it to the dealer (my car is still under warranty, so I have to take it to the dealer for maintenance and such) and if that's the case they may be able to give me a courtesy rental

that's also a good point
