"How's The Longing"
Quinneapolis
The Longing is a game about a little guy in a cave
Quinneapolis
the king of the mountain has gone to sleep for 400 days
Quinneapolis
you must wake him up once the time has passed
Quinneapolis
until then you have no instructions
Quinneapolis
other than to not leave the caves
Quinneapolis
but the caves are vast
Quinneapolis
and you must find ways of improving your living situation
Quinneapolis
to pass the time faster
Quinneapolis
I have found the Halls of Eternity
Quinneapolis
time does not pass here
Quinneapolis
but I found some curtains
Echo
Are they nice?
Quinneapolis
they match my armchair
Quinneapolis
I looked up the mechanics of the halls of eternity
Quinneapolis
as you walk to the right, you might discover an item every 60 seconds of walking
Quinneapolis
a few items are unique, but you can keep finding sheets of paper infinitely
Quinneapolis
but
Quinneapolis
however long you walk to the right
Quinneapolis
you have to walk all the way back to the left to get back out
Quinneapolis
OK this is enough of eternity
Quinneapolis
I think I'll go home and read moby dick
Quinneapolis
well, I successfully passed about 2 hours
Quinneapolis
only 399 days and 22 hours to go
dragon time
oh that sounds nice
Quinneapolis
the timer keeps ticking while offline
Quinneapolis
so in theory you could get... an ending by just
Quinneapolis
firing up the game
Quinneapolis
putting it down for a year and change
Quinneapolis
then opening it and going to wake up the king
dragon time
oh, real time
Quinneapolis
sort of - upgrades to your home make time pass faster
Quinneapolis
as does doing stuff
Quinneapolis
reading any page of a book for the first time eats up a minute
dragon time
that does sound neat

Question. Would you consider this suitable for true idle play when you are legitimately doing something else and just reach over to click a few buttons once every fifteen minutes, or is it better if you have the game in your hands the whole time? You mention walking around for several minutes for example, was that manually controlled?
Quinneapolis
honestly I would
Quinneapolis
er, I'd consider it to be good for both
Quinneapolis
you can't miss things due to time out unless the game takes you 400 days and possibly even then
Quinneapolis
regarding walking around - the protag is very slow but you can also set like waypoints
Quinneapolis
and you click one and he'll just walk slowly all the way there
Quinneapolis
and you can tab away while you wait
Quinneapolis
as we speak, my guy is reading moby dick, at one page per minute, in realtime
Quinneapolis
so he'll probably be done when I fire the game up tomorrow

Thank you so much...! I'll probably get it for PC then rather than switch. Idle play is my lifeblood and there'd be less of a memory management concern
