Starfirez: I keep it vibrant by only washing it once a week, using a low poo type shampoo with no sulfates, keeping it pulled up at home, using good conditioner. I loosely follow the curly girl method. I started so I could keep my color vibrant longer but my hair has never been healthier.
When I dye it I bleach the new growth first coming down into the previous color just a bit. then the next day once my hair is throughly dry I put in my dye. I use the brand n'rage but it is getting hard to find. and I leave the dye in for a minimum of 2 hours and up to 4 hours.
I wash with head and shoulders and/or this suave shampoo I have they are both good at stripping all the good out of my hair and removing any build up. even though I don't use much in my hair we have hard water so there is always some build up overtime.
they tell you not to but I have to use some conditioner after I bleach my hair is so dry and snarled at that point but I haven't had it effect the dye.
I even trimmed my bangs.
hours later I realized it was a stress/manic reaction. thankfully it turned out perfect if slightly short.
