My serious answer is the first, but I actually put the second as reader response. Down with thingol and all his works, who cares if he happens to be dead
I put the second for my serious answer, because the first one was murdering and stealing stuff that ain’t yours, but the second one the stuff is actually yours arguably
I think I would rank the third as 2nd worst, but barely better than the first. Like, the stuff is still arguably yours and you did ask for it back first, but now you’re attacking refugees which is pretty low.
also, I would like to postulate the possibility that if the feanorians hadn’t attacked Sirion that something even worse could have happened, because tldr it doesn’t matter if you think the Silm is some weird magical protection, you’re wrong and it’s going to kill you
By the same token if you're running a refugee city and have a shiny rock that has a cursed oath attached to it AND is the focused target of both of your main "enemies" when you could give it up and absolutely placate ONE of them and GAIN a staunch ally against your second, more terrible enemy, and instead choose to hold onto it, you're fucking stupid.
A better question would have been “since Maglor chucked his silmaril into the ocean, would Maedhros (had he been alive) have been obligated to kill him?”
he may or may not follow up immediately by killing himself but it would be half 'can't doom my family by giving up on the oath even if this is them' and half 'this is for his own good we're both too far gone at this point it's a mercy kill'
maglor might be able to fasttalk his way into convincing him he didn't violate it tho because he wouldn't really want to but i do think he certainly would have
I mean I think you could argue it was fulfilled FOR THEM, but does it count for the ones who are dead, ALSO does the oath being fulfilled require all three or is two enough
Look is there any question that Fingolfin is dad energy?
