To those In The Know... What does Dual Cultivation mean? Because I'm hearing conflicting meanings so I'm curious!

From some of the fanfic I've read it's like dual cultivation is when the qi/ spiritual energy blends or is shared with another person. Sometimes as just a way to get off sexually and sometimes as a way of forcing a lot of spiritual energy into someone who is badly needing it (like they're out of spiritual energy and are needing to heal) or something

And in the novel I've just read there was a question of being Cultivation partners and have they dual cultivated with the implication being have they done the dirty yet lol. Which is why I'm curious if there are dual meanings to dual cultivation
