okay so seeing this in a friend's plurk:

reminded me of some of my favorite Discourse™ (you know, the stuff we used to call 'wank' back in my day) EVER

and that is: "If you call any character a child/your child EVEN IF THEY ARE AN ADULT, you are no longer allowed to write darkfic/whumpfic/anything that causes them harm because that constitutes child abuse"

oh my god

it was one of those that I looked at for a solid five or ten seconds before I burst out laughing

(I'm reasonably sure they were referring to a ship with an age gap, but where the younger party was still very much an adult)

fandom policying is insane

it got that way when we started calling it 'Discourse' as if it's actually something to be discussed instead of 'Wank' which only benefits the person doing it

(same way no longer using 'squick' was a steady downhill slope to 'omg i'm triggered!' over anything that someone mildly doesn't like)
