now having to look for a different house insurance company because my current one is proving to be unreliable and dishonest.

tried to claim for the lightning damage to the solar panel installation which occurred on 20th July but for which I've been unable to get any solar engineers. The original company is claiming they only supply the trade now and the other local companies have been unobtainable in various ways.

my LV insurance agreed that it was an insured thing and that they should be able to find suitable engineers through their buildings department. But they never got back to me as promised that afternoon.

what did happen instead, by super-speedy post after my phone call, was them immediately hiking up my premium for the upcoming renewal - by much more than just the excess (ie it wasn't them blending in that payment) and before they had done any real work to remedy the situation at all.

a government assessor a few years ago had said I might be being overcharged for insurance anyway - not by much, ie possibly not really worth the effort of changing, but slightly over the average for my circumstances.
sef_lopod
so this price hike makes it far more likely I'm overpaying but I only have a week to find an alternative insurer and of course that then means LV are even less likely to put any effort into sorting my existing claim under my current insurance.

the online comparisons are a pain to use (lots of junk and threats of spam quite aside from the legitimate form-filling nightmare) but SAGA might be the best replacement. I think I'm going to have to ring them direct though because it didn't look to me as though they received the same info.

waited all evening yesterday for LV's next promised call (after I again phoned them and complained about the predatory price hike and put a stop to the auto-renewal) with still nothing happening from their side. So they're not endearing themselves to me at all.

been dealing with all sorts of tricky things all day and has now found out that I'm completely stuck in limbo on the insurance. Because my current insurer hasn't given me any sort of a costing on my claim (with the replacement part being unknown and high value), no new insurer can give me a new insurance quote now.

when you do untangle the mess I would recommend Saga as they do seem to have a fairly efficient service on most types of insurance including an online option that works and ‘real’ people to talk to when you need to.

Unfortunately, we also got stuck in that loop a few years ago and didn’t manage to wrangle our way out so ended up having to stay with the rubbish company for an additional term😡.

almost certainly going to have to reactivate the LV renewal for the upcoming year because the timing is far too tight. My entire life is basically a series of unfortunate events (and having to deal with a plethora of incompetent and malign humans).
sef_lopod
also continued the fight to get this year's ISA sorted (adding the new allowance to the old transferred sum within the time window).
sef_lopod
meanwhile it's all kicking off from the students ahead of term.
sef_lopod
back on the phone to LV because there has been no news from them despite me emailing the details of the most likely broken part.
sef_lopod
without a quote from them on that claim, I'm completely unable to obtain alternative insurance.
sef_lopod
but to add insult to injury, LV are now going to demand their super high renewal payment ahead of the renewal date because they allegedly can't reinstate the auto-renewal the way it was before I paused it to check on other insurers.
