does anyone else find themselves regularly using regional slang and then realizing you have to explain what it means

because that has happened to me with surprising regularity.

I knew some things were likely just here, but...

i don't ever have to EXPLAIN "wicked" but i have to edit it out of my writing regularly

though i did have a friend who moved near seattle for school from the east coast and had to explain "wicked" to her mormon roommates kjdfkhg

oh also i've started wars over "bubbler"

all the regional slang i know is in chinese

i say some midwestern slang when i'm in the south then have to explain it

I'm the opposite, I hang onto as much as I can just because a lot of what makes SK SK always seems to be fading. Like, in the past decade, we've gone from "quit trying to call it a hoodie, it's a bunny hug" to "nah, it's a hoodie."

bubbler is a terrible term nobody should use

Water fountain, for some fucking reason

bubbler I believe is the name of a company that makes water fountains

so the name is plastered on the front of water fountains in like, one small area of the country where they operate

so it's one of those "the brand name becomes what they call the thing they make" deals

i don't actually think that's a thing

having googled it a little it looked like a certain company tried to copyright "bubbler" but only after it was already being used

that's what my ex told me when she was telling me why she calls them bubblers

hearing she's full of shit isn't surprising though

it looks like it's a common myth
