anyway so real quick backstory for the uninitiated

like idk prolly six months ago? give or take? i saw a mouse in my house. and I am too much of a sad sap to put down poison or kill-traps, so i bought one of those humane mouse catchy tubes

but did not. think. much farther ahead than that, and when it caught the lil guy i was like. well what the fuck do I do now? I'm in the middle of the burbs, everywhere else around me is somebody's lawn, should I drive to the dog park and let him go there?

so i did the sane thing any normal person would do and

bought a mouse habitat

(and just as an aside in case anyone is worried, my boss has a friend at U of A who specializes in mice. I had him check the guy out to make sure he wasn't diseased or dangerous)

so anyway Mr. Gregory started chewing on the bars like a month or two ago and I was like. hm what does this mean. so I bought him like. apple sticks

i bought him these calcium chew things for mice and hamsters and whatever

so in my obvious mouse expertise i googled it

and some rando said it was because his living area was too small and he was trying to tunnel out some more space

i just bought mr. gregory an entire second fuckin house and a shitload of tubes

and slightly traumatized him by connecting them together i am sure

— another aside, I have tried and pretty much accepted that as a wild mouse he will never be the type to, you know, socialize with a person. he is too timid to come near my hand and will scurry off into his hidey spooky nest any time it gets too close to the bars

after I hooked up mr. gregory's second house

the dude became the bravest lil fucker I have ever seen him be

and almost immediately left the safety of his spook nest to totally explore the add-on space

like the lil guy's been havin a blast runnin all around the thing

he does not seem to give a shit that I'm right here

i also got paranoid about the structural integrity so there's clear packing tape attached to the plastic in places he can't reach

the best and pretty much only way to clean those tubes is to soak them in a bathtub or your sink until the gunk dissolves, I'm sorry ahead of time because it's kind of a pain in the ass

also if you want to give him extra stimulation and stuff safe empty toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. shred up toilet paper or paper towels, stuff the tubes with the paper + treats (either store bought or like fresh veggies and fruit) and let him go to town playing with them and burrowing in them and making nests and stuff
