i used to hate the 'realistic pokemon' stuff because i didn't think it looked realistic but now that i know a lot of it is actually monster hunter-styled pokemon?? i love it
anywho i was looking for art of monster hunter monsters as pokemon (as you do) and ofc ended up seeing a lot of art that goes both ways n it got me thinkin about how one would classify monsters like in the pokedex and pokemon like in the hunters guild
easiest to decide i think is pokemon as monsters, so
endemic life = babies/first stages and small pokes incl small legends (ex. shaymin, marill line, pikachu family, etc); legends being rare endemics a la moon jellyfish
large monster subspecies = evos of pokemon that fit large monster criteria, alternate forms/unique abilities (ex. steelix, zen mode darmanitan, lycanroc)
elder dragons = all not-tiny legends (ex. groudon, the musketeers, cresselia)
elder dragon variants = not-tiny legends with alternate forms or unique abilities (shadow lugia/mewtwo, kyurem and necrozma forms, origin forme giratina, etc)
elder dragon deviants = legendary megas, ik elder deviants don't exist in monhan but
this is all p fun to think about considering i was at one point very close to making a journal for one of my monhan ocs to bring to vr. still might toss out that pokemon au idea for some PSL shenanigans or fourth wall sometime
BUT now we get to monster hunters in pokemon taxonomy - which is mostly the reverse of the above, BUT since elder deviants don't exist legendary megas are instead reserved for the strongest elders' variants, lore-wise (white and crimson fatalis, shagaru magala, shah dalamadur, etc)
i figure if monsters were being categorized like pokemon exactly how they already are there would be a LOT of dual types and dragon types, but i imagine typings would get a lot more funky if one were turning monsters into pokemon, like chameleos being dragon/ghost and malfestio being flying/psychic
and ofc this categorization goes both ways but would probably be even more simplified to just, how does the pokemon deal damage and what statuses does it inflict
(and do not get me started on the weaknesses chart, it will not translate lmao. most electric monsters are weak to ice damage, but most monsters have multiple weaknesses of varying degrees, monsters have weakness/resistances to specific types of non-elemental damage, and even then the logic isn't 100%)
basically though it'd be confusing but not impossible whether you're from pokemon and trying to understand monsters or you're from monhan and trying to understand pokemon lol. i imagine the IC discussions would be fun
endemic life = babies/first stages and small pokes incl small legends (ex. shaymin, marill line, pikachu family, etc); legends being rare endemics a la moon jellyfish
large monsters = full evos, powerful large pokes with no evos, excl legends (ex. garchomp, druddigon, gyarados, onix)
elder dragons = all not-tiny legends (ex. groudon, the musketeers, cresselia)
elder dragon variants = not-tiny legends with alternate forms or unique abilities (shadow lugia/mewtwo, kyurem and necrozma forms, origin forme giratina, etc)
elder dragon deviants = legendary megas, ik elder deviants don't exist in monhan but
electric = electric
water = water, bug
fire = fire
ice = ice
dragon/dragonblight/frenzy = dragon, dark
paralysis = electric, bug, psychic, ghost
poison = poison
blast = fire, dragon
most other statuses = psychic, bug, fairy, ghost
