Mrs Sheepie
given the earlier discussion that the general Solvunn aesthetic is celtic/norse inspired, I've started wondering what the FC might be like
Mrs Sheepie
and like, the easy answer/general consensus is just straight up steampunk, and I'm super into that of course
Mrs Sheepie
but like
Mrs Sheepie
given that there's no Victorian period here, and the free cities get immigrants from both other countries, I wonder if the aesthetic isn't more like
Mrs Sheepie
ye olde technowizard?
Un(t)sundered
given that the free cities have access to more technology iirc it's possible they'd have like... more modern-ish clothes making processes?
Un(t)sundered
so not necessarily all handmade!
Mrs Sheepie
an unholy fusion of the celtic/norse from the south and the high fantasy style fusion from Thorne, combined with semi-practical OSHA measures so you don't get your sleeves stuck in giant pistons
Mrs Sheepie
Un(t)sundered
YEAH, clothes would be able to be mass produced, material supplied notwithstanding
Un(t)sundered
yeah!
Mrs Sheepie
so there's probably a much greater demand for like, tailors and such and properly fitted clothes would be a lot more common than the other two locations
Mrs Sheepie
and less of a sign of luxury?
Mrs Sheepie
(I am not a fashion historian)

Mrs Sheepie
unfortunately I am not grishaverse familiar, I had to google that, haha
Mrs Sheepie
looking at some of the cast shots from S&B tho, that's definitely the direction I'm thinking of!
Mrs Sheepie

The Milo Thatch-looking one is about what I'm picturing for Jon, but with better fitting pants.
Mrs Sheepie
my mental image here is mostly like, this would be a step up from smithing/leatherworking so of course the fashion lies in looking similar to those as the Important/Popular lines of work with New Magic and all that, so fashion would follow that sort of functional aesthetic?
Mrs Sheepie
the actual steam part hasn't happened in FC, not wide-spreadly so, so the fashion predates it, I think
BethampHATamine
Also the Free Cities are in a desert, so fashion will take that into account as well.
BethampHATamine
light, shading layers.
Mrs Sheepie
YES
Mrs Sheepie
a huge chunk of the Victorian aesthetic is soggy-ass London England being cold as shit

i love these bc if industrialism is starting to get big then really intricately detailed stuff like that would be EVERYWHERE thanks to reduced costs in labour and time thanks to machinery

Hehe, thanks. Those Greek/Turkish bits feel imminently stealable for one of my things. :3
Mrs Sheepie
