BOOK PLURK: give me a genre and i'll tell you about a book i love from it AND/OR tell me about one of your favorite books of all time AND/OR tell me about a current read that you're especially into
فك يو
i'm reading lonesome dove, which is a thousand-page western that i would have been very, very unlikely to pick up on my own, but it came to me in a box of books that i won via bookcrossing
فك يو
i've had it sitting around the house for... two years? more? and i finally picked it up last month, and surprise! i'm really into it
FʀɪᴇɴᴅIɴYᴇʟʟᴏᴡ
fantasy!
PriestBlaster20
i just finished the vanishing half last week! everyone has been talking about it and rightfully so. shit slaps
PriestBlaster20
my favorite book of all time is unfortunately the great gatsby. it simply compels me
فك يو
FʀɪᴇɴᴅIɴYᴇʟʟᴏᴡ the gentleman bastard series by scott lynch! v funny, clever writing, fun characters and great character dynamics
فك يو
my favorite in the series is the second book, red seas under red skies, but i really enjoyed them all
TheHourMorgana
Period mystery, UK!
فك يو
PriestBlaster20 i've heard good things about the vanishing half! i think i have it on my to-read list at the library
فك يو
and someday i'll reread the great gatsby now that i'm no longer a fifteen-year-old being forced into it, and see if that improves my opinion............
فك يو
TheHourMorgana OH MAN that's a tough one; let me dig into my goodreads and see what jumps out at me
TheHourMorgana
:-)
فك يو
the pearl thief by elizabeth wein! it's kinda-sorta part of a series (there are overlapping characters but each book can be read as a standalone, and this one is admittedly my least favorite of the ones i've read, but that has more to do with how great i found the other ones than anything else
فك يو
it's a bit on the lighthearted side overall (even though the mystery is to do with a murder and class prejudice is a significant plot point), but again, the characters and their interactions are so good
Mυrder Mυғғιɴ
Books i’ve read more than once: fahrenheit 451 by bradbury (and i really liked the michael b jordan adaptation), lamb by christopher moore and catch-22 by joseph heller.
Mυrder Mυғғιɴ
I guess i like dark humour >.>
فك يو
catch-22 is also on my list!
فك يو
and man, i didn't know there was a recent fahrenheit 451 adaptation
YawningDodo
I just finished a long overdue reread of Terry Pratchett’s Monstrous Regiment moments ago and man that was a journey
فك يو
is that part of one of his series or a standalone?
YawningDodo
It’s a Discworld novel; Vimes is in it but it’s not really about him. It takes place in a war-torn little country called Borogravia where they worship a mad god and also their human leader who may or may not be dead.
YawningDodo
A girl named Polly disguises herself as a man to join the army and find her brother, and then things get...complicated.
Mυrder Mυғғιɴ
HBO did it and Michael B Jordan was Guy Montag and it really updated the concepts for the social media world and it was SUPER good.
Boo👻Berry
humor! nonfiction or fiction
Mouth Powers
mystery!
فك يو
Boo👻Berry motel of the mysteries by david macaulay; it's a satirical "history" book about a group of future archaeologists excavating an "ancient temple" (a current-day motel) , and how they interpret the artifacts they find inside (hilariously, inaccurately)
فك يو
Mouth Powers the vanishing of katharina linden by helen grant, about a little girl trying to investigate the mystery of a girl who went missing in her village, and i'd say more but all my favorite things about it are spoilers 8(
Boo👻Berry
that sounds like something I will love
فك يو
it's hysterical

فك يو

فك يو
i'll go immerse myself in my goodreads to come up with one of my own
ᑕᖇIᗰ
Expanse Books?
undrwo
James A Corey, I think, first one Leviathan Wakes. Turned into the tv show the Expanse
undrwo
Content warnings galore! But an excellent scifi mystery that straddles both genres grippingly
فك يو
man, i don't think i have a rec for this one, which is funny because i'm really into both genres
Sopa de codito
romance
فك يو
Sopa de codito three daughters by consuelo saah baehr! it's actually more of a family epic than anything in that it follows three generations of a palestinian family, but romance & marriages are one of the central themes throughout
