A.B.I.torial: Melty Blood Character Designs Are Blan...

Good video about the Melty Blood designs and why they are the way they are
Gemakai
Also I will now refer to Fate's genre as "Magic Assholes fighting in the streets at night"

I was planning on checking out that video because I must confess, I utterly loathe how bland those character designs are sometimes but oddly love them?
𝕙𝕠𝕟𝕜𝕪-𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕜 𝕝𝕒𝕕𝕪
I completely think the phrase "less is more" rings true here
𝕙𝕠𝕟𝕜𝕪-𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕜 𝕝𝕒𝕕𝕪
I love over the top designs but I also love the minimalist details we see in Melty Blood
𝕙𝕠𝕟𝕜𝕪-𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕜 𝕝𝕒𝕕𝕪
and even in FFXV

I dunno why those designs work so well but they do.

𝕙𝕠𝕟𝕜𝕪-𝕥𝕠𝕟𝕜 𝕝𝕒𝕕𝕪 : According to the video, it's the mystery "more than meets the eye" sort of mentality when it comes to Nasu characters
TᴏᴡɴIɴsɪᴅᴇMᴇ🐻
that at least applies to the most nasuverse stuff.... fgo really has thrown a lot of that out the window (though not for the worse, it's just different)
TᴏᴡɴIɴsɪᴅᴇMᴇ🐻
but knk, tsukihime, and the original fsn are very much that urban fantasy/"Magic Assholes fighting in the streets at night" vibe
Gemakai
gsai: Yea. FGO's different. Though granted, that mainly applies to servants, who don't follow the normal nasu idea of design except for like 'casual looks'
TᴏᴡɴIɴsɪᴅᴇMᴇ🐻
well also fgo doesn't have like. a normal world setting to contrast against
Gemakai
also yes
TᴏᴡɴIɴsɪᴅᴇMᴇ🐻
the only fgo chapter close to that was Shinjuku and even that didn't quite feel the same
TᴏᴡɴIɴsɪᴅᴇMᴇ🐻
but yeah, ABI makes a great point in this video about what makes the MB cast work for its setting, and why its contrast against other conventions of punchgames is sort of The Point, Actually
