[true crime] im listening to a "lets not meet" podcast based on the Reddit board and it just occurred to me
angrbodic
ever since I was a kid, my mother especially has been leery of door-to-door people, demanding IDs, proof of employment even if it was a contractor. the only exception has been companies like CenturyLink
angrbodic
and this story was a group of people pretending to be apart of some gas and electric company and ADT
angrbodic
and then I remembered BTK. totally forgot my mother was living in Kansas during that time, in that area... with my older brother no less
angrbodic
I'd ask her about it... even with missionaries. like, I used to feel so bad for them, I always handed out water
angrbodic
her thing was "yeah, there used to be a guy back when your older brother was a baby that killed people that way" and now im like
angrbodic
orite
angrbodic
I can't even imagine how terrifying that was and plus the added fact that BTK even killed kids
angrbodic
who else has boomer parents that were extra hyper vigilant ?
angrbodic
then she moved back to Colorado not long after Bundy was there
angrbodic
the 70s were insane
angrbodic
I forget what episode it was too, but Marcus Parks from Last Podcast on the Left brought up a point that lead poisoning could have been a contributor to these issues
236 bees
well it sounds like an interesting podcast

my mom wasn't quite that vigilant but she was a bit paranoid and taught me to be a bit paranoid too
