I was LOOSELY familiar with Sabriel as a series, but like. really loosely. I thought Sabriel was younger originally, like 14? I think I also thought there were like, 5 books just about her, Harry Potter style
He still doesn't know very much about her, like on a personal level. She talks so much about work and stays really on task. He thinks she's really self-serious but has a good heart. She's like, IMPRESSIVELY responsible and diligent for someone her age. Like, WAY more than he was at her age
RATCHET thinks....well actually they nose dived into some fairly up front conversations pretty quickly so there wasn't a lot of TIME to develop too much PRE-preconceptions. Right now he knows a little bit about her background, and less about her personality which is an unusual one....although he finds her to have like
Also they're on a similar plane of life experience/age that makes talking to her feel easy....there's some challenge to talking to much younger people about certain things because Ratchet neither wants to condescend nor be too laissez faire
but that sweet spot where someone is about the same life experience as you and you can just kind of voice a concern or worry without feeling like you're like...making their world worse?

: So with Erik I was totally canon familiar, I saw the movie and was like, semiiii familiar with his comics incarnations as well (obviously that's a whole different thing) so I cant recall any fun misunderstandings
But Ratchet, absolutely doesn't know WHAT this guy's deal is. Like, Ratchet is fairly inclined to trust people he's spoken....at all. But there's definitely a notable secretiveness to Erik, especially amongst people who are quite readily proclaim their stances and take sides
I don't think he has any specific hunches, but he's known enough like, politically neutral party smugglers and "that guy you know who inexplicably knows how to get things" types of individuals. There's a savviness there. but he doesn't know ANYTHING about Erik's world really or how he fits into it so it's tough to pin anything down

I MEAN HE LOOKS HUMAN-ISH. But there are some decently human-adjacent species in Ratchet's world, and he's met a lot of humans here, who are PRETTY UNIFORM. Rosinante being even a little different reads to Ratchet like "not a human"
He's another one too who, like Erik, Ratchet doesn't really have a handle on yet. He plays his cards really close to the vest, in a way that is like, obvious without feeling like he's lying, just secretive. HE'S ALSO GOT SOME REALLY COOL ABILITIES and really proactive in protecting people which Ratchet thinks is Excellent

RATCHET did not assume Yzak was a bad guy....he did assume he was like, a high ranking person of some kind of status. he's got the uniform, and the demeanor...sometimes. I think he assumed, on that basis that Yzak was a bit older

I look forward to the day when they actually get to talk because you know they got some good shit to talk about. But right now, Ratchet is REALLY skeptical. And maybe more than a little unfairly prejudiced

I actuall would really like to watch the untamed now that i know more about it....i was very bewildered by what it was or where to start before some people helpfully filled me in.
Ratchet has talked to a couple of Xichen's cast mates, so he knows that he is from a world without (what ratchet considers) modern technology, and also definitely assumes from his manner that he is like, A Wealthy Man of Noble Society
I have NO IDEA ic or ooc if this is true, but it's what Ratchet thinks for sure. Obviously it's pure first impressions since they JUST started, although Ratchet already likes that Xichen went to the heart of the issue to talk to the Lord and get some information

this is a man who doesn’t lie (just avoids the truth skillfully without lying). what he’s done is very out of character for him and he’s definitely off doing handstands over it
IC Ratchet just met Eddie, who has informed him of a couple things; that he was dead in his world, and he's a risk analyst. Which Ratchet has filed away as "an accountant"
SO FAR HE THINKS HE'S INTENSE. Nervous intense, but not in a scared way...he seems like he had a pretty good head on his shoulders, especially considering that he apparently died. That's some hard shit to deal with. He's also pretty sure that he and Richie are like. Real Close. Maybe they're married? Maybe they're just friends, but he can appreciate that.
He's into math and numbers in exactly the way his robot friend is, albeit in a way pricklier personality. But it's still like, a warm blanket to him, he can't hate on it.
I personally love their weird misunderstanding CR start, and so far Ratchet is like, kind of surprised by Hermann. His commitment to the team's success is really ego-free in a way that he thinks is pretty cool
The plant angle is DEFINITELY new to him. There are quite a few intelligent species in his world, so the novelty of new species isn't strange to him, but a plant species is
He met Syr when he helped him out at the market so his initial impressions are of a pretty stand up individual; he seems a little rigid, but very open to questions and sharing. Ratchet definitely likes him, and feels like he's someone who's really committed to the success of their team. No ego or self-centered vibes to speak of
lmao clara looks like she'd have a buttoned up personality but only does when she's putting up lotssss of walls. and does a little more toward the end of her time in s9. after all the trauma
I mean the irony of his compulsion to call people out for their nerdiness is ratchet is way more of a nerd than he likes to let people know. He just doesn't know how to do math
Ratchet's dad was, by all evidence, in the field of quantum physics. He was definitely a scientist and/or engineer who studied parallel dimensions. And Ratchet's like, 'wanna see me weld a rocket to a skateboard?"
One of my RP dreams, is to have Ratchet actually like, take some of his extremely undisciplined knowledge of mechanics and engineering, for which he has A LOT of inherent understanding of, without ever being able to show his work (a real throw shit at the wall until it sticks method)
and actually like, apply some discipline or structure to it. No one is EVER going to sit him down and make him learn math at this point in his life, but he could stand to learn literally anything else and it would make him better at it.
