[fear street] i haven't finished watching the third one yet but i had to say (BIG SPOILERS INSIDE)

we’re legends
I fuckin KNEW the cop gave me icky vibes!!

we’re legends
I couldn't tell if 1994 was your standard copaganda and my anti-cop stance was interfering or if they were in fact presenting him as being not quite right, and then 1978 made him the love interest and I went UGH and concluded it was the first thing. They got me good with that.

And it turns out he was the bad guy all along, literally contracted to Satan, victimizing minorities (his chosen sacrifice was Ricky TORRES and he and the ancestor who started it all are both shown to go after queer women, and boy isn't he quick to pull his gun when the Black kid runs from him) - this is not accidental storytelling in this climate.

we’re legends
And I love it.

we’re legends
Hah, and just to make sure we know he's a fuckin dick, the movie takes the time to clarify that he personally framed Martin, the Black man we saw arrested in the first movie on obviously false charges, and who has now been folded into helping get rid of him.

saku 🌠
damn

we’re legends
aaaand a sequel hook/cliffhanger ending (sort of, the story this trilogy tells does get wrapped up nicely, including am big romantic lesbian kiss at the end) and we're done.

we’re legends
Man, that was good. I can't believe a trilogy based on Fear Street was that good.

we’re legends
Also I was very worried about our protagonist bc their solution to the problem definitely resulted in three dead cops, including Nick Goode who Deena did actually kill herself (or - Sarah did it, through Deena? I think, stuff moved pretty fast at the end), but the movie thought of that.

we’re legends
Turns out breaking the contract between the Goodes and the Devil basically results in three centuries' worth of bad luck landing on them all at once (that's my interpretation, anyway) and now Goode himself is implicated as a serial killer! Whee.

we’re legends
Movies where the final girl prevails and I'm like "yeah, but one's gonna believe you, you are going to jail" are a bummer, so I appreciate Fear Street leaving no room for ambiguity - our survivors get not only their happy ending, but three centuries' worth of the happiness that Shadyside has been denied.

we’re legends
anyway I'm probably gonna watch at least the first movie again today, just to see all the stuff with Goode that I thought I was making up.
