Whoa! Linden Lab hasn't revealed this yet but it's available on the creator's Vimeo!

This is scary

Hamlet's point about the tools is spot on.
MarvelMouse 🐭
They should say, "If you're interested in creating in SL, download 8 million different tools to make stuff outside of it."

This looks like every other mobile app ad on Facebook/YouTube that stuns and awes with the trailer and then turns out to be a catfish.
PlurkDevi
I like how they left the cybersex on the cutting room floor.
MarvelMouse 🐭
PlurkDevi right? They could have easily morphed into an avatar on a pole.
Max Graf
MarvelMouse 🐭 : oh and learn the equivalent of a degree in CG and a minor in animation, then how to unlearn half that so you can make it work using SL proprietary methods and standards, if you want to compete.
MarvelMouse 🐭
yep....

There are a dozen reasons that WE can see why this piece is somewhat misleading, but it is doing what advertising does...it hypes the product to people who may be largely unfamiliar with it. What advertising doesn't bullshit you?
Max Graf
I tend to lean more toward that aspect. Promise a bowl of soup to get them in the door. They won't want to eat once they sit down...no wait that sounds wrong. They will not be thinking of food once they spend some time there? Something. You know.
Max Graf
there is a risk of the new user seeing this and coming to the same conclusions users already do about it not representing what SL is or does very well. I think there is still a lot about SL that would keep them exploring further, however, once in the door, even if the add is not very representational.

The number of initial new logins this ad generates will most likely be high enough to offset the number who don't like what they find.

Is VRChat better? Helios? Decentraland looks like a low poly version of low poly.

As out of date as some of the technology may seem after 18 years, there is really nothing else like it, still. Nobody has managed to get even remotely close to the point SL is at with a virtual world. Why is it so hard to market that?
✴Sparkling✴
there simply is still nothing out there that competes, and give as much to me as SL does

I have to say, I think it is a fantastic ad, if this said another company, I would be looking it up and d/ing it to try it out

My 2 cents... The Future is Now. ....It's like it took 18 years for the rest of the world to "get it" what SL is. Its not a game, its a virtual life with no rules. So, post pandemic. They understand it now. 2 thumbs up from Dev! So cyberpunk!

I know it's a ad and meant to build hype, but to me it's almost like Instagram influencers v reality. (LOL)
