How much of that is how heavily she's been marketed compared to other characters, and how much of it is that the show drew in a bunch of people who wouldn't normally be considered "Sanrio fans" and couldn't name most of the other characters?

Yeah. Aggretsuko is definitely much more visible to the layman in the West than a lot of Sanrio's other roster of characters. Like, I know exactly nothing about Sanrio as a whole but I at least have heard about Aggrestuko through word of mouth a lot more, to prove your point.

Yeah. A number of the other characters also had shows, but those were either very old (sure, we watched Keroppi as kids, but do we remember?) or hit the range of "this appeals to young girls and so we are ignoring it" (Jewelpet, My Melody, you could even count Show By Rock).

Sanrio Boys is a good intro to the more popular mascots, but being a show made about the fandom and the blatant commercialism inherent in that premise (plus the dismissal of "fangirl bait" in general) made people pass on that one, too. And again, they only covered characters who were already popular.
