Reading more in/spectre for ibis icons and god, I still can't get over how cool the concept for the Steel Lady Nanase arc is

Steel Lady Nanase, the concept of a ghost of a murdered idol back for revenge, given form not as an actual ghost but as a manifestation of the urban legends spreading around her death

Invincible as long as the occult rumors continue to spread

But the truth behind her death was very mundane and uninteresting, so it would only be rejected by the internet

so the only way to stop her is to muddy the water by presenting alternate explanations for her that are also wrong but more plausible

the finale is Kuro, who is immortal, fighting the ghost and getting killed by it repeatedly to stall for time

while Kotoko hosts a discussion online where she presents four possible explanations for what the truth of Nanase's death and the rumors of a ghost might be

but aren't

a courtroom of lies against lies

god its SUCH a good arc

Explanation 1: A Detecetive Conan-esque convoluted but mundane murder mystery solution to the main kill attributed to Nanase's ghost

Explanation 2: A story that starts with accepting that the ghost is real, but explains her actions with a narrative that suggests that her purpose in reviving has now been fulfilled, meaning that she'll disappear now

each explanation that gains traction weakens the phantom

and Kotoko is just

so FUCKING good at this

less like that Explanation 3 involves a deranged cross-dressing murderer
