Apparently, I have no impulse control when it comes to books. I mean, I knew this a little when I chose to pay for a pretty book because it was pretty but like... wow me
tldr; I gave up on LK Hamilton's Anita Blake series when it became all smut and like 0.5% plot (specifically the novel where it's like 600 pages and we don't even elapse 12 hours. >.> )
Also don't get me wrong, I don't mind smut in books at all. But when I hop onto a bandwagon because it's about this detective doing detective things, I get bored when it's about which vampire she's fucking this book.

: I have a Richard, an Elizabeth and a Raina >.> I wanna say Danse Macabe was my last. I've heard she's gotten better again. Btu I'd have to read the... not good books to pick the series up again...
like, I picked up her Merry Gentry series FULLY expecting it to be 90% smut, and I was fine with it because I went into the series expecting it to start with.
but like Anita Blake spent like six books giving me 90% plot and for the first few books, NO SMUT! So that's my expectoration for the series. Because that's what I liked.
I'm not sure what to expect from the series. But like, pending how it's done, I'd be here for some angel and demon smut? But at the same time, the blurb doesn't indicate smut. So it's like, keep a decent balance with the plot and I'll be happy
and I agree with you on everything. pretty sure DM was my last, and I only read it because my ex went to a signing to get me a personally signed copy with a birthday note, so I felt obligated to suffer through reading it lol

: I didn't either. It came up on my amazon reading suggestions and I was like, oh hello there. lol so come August, I'll give her new one a shot. Here's hoping it doesn't go the same route as AB - good for 6 books, and then nosedive into sex with no plot

: Like, I'm okay with smut if I know to expect it. But you don't go through 7 books of ALMOST COMPLETELY PLOT and then make a left turn and end up in smuts'ville
I grew up with those books and loved them, it was good timing because the newer Anne Rice vampire books at the time weren't doing it for me anymore since her style changed, so teen me was like "yay awesome new supernatural series!" and then the nosedive
like you said, I'm 1000% fine with smut (had no issues with the fae books since that was there from like day one) but with AB it was like "no... no but what was wrong with the mystery and detective stuff "
also. the, shall we say, Mary Sue tones that could come up with AB didn't seem nearly as obvious until those books went hard into the smut and it was just like, are you kidding me. (at least for me)
yeah. We get into a series for a reason. We don't like when that reason gets tossed out the window in favor of something else, not even just smut. Because it could have been any other big change as well. Any complete pivot from the original concept would throw people
