Jessie
[legacies] current theories about s3 landon but they involve spoilers
Jessie
ok so he's sus right
Jessie
hes been sus since he came back
Jessie
and at first my theory was "oh ok so that's clearly malivore walking around in a landon skin"
Jessie
but then he was all hype about the gremlin and I was like "ok well I WAS WRONG"
Jessie
but some lines dropped last night and I'm squinting
Jessie
wade went full nerd and that's supposed to be the punchline but
Jessie
- it was a monster in the d&d bestiary and they needed wade to ID it even though wade says Landon is the best available DM
Jessie
- wade was like "this is just like the time we played a 30-hour session" and landon couldn't follow the conversation
Jessie
if you've dmed for 30 hours, you fucking remember that shit
Jessie
when hope was struggling to speak, she called him "liar"
Jessie
and he was a little too unconflicted when it came to stabbing her
Jessie
OH WAIT just got to the ending
Jessie
I started plurking before I finished
Jessie
oh good the episode is confirming all of the things
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
Do you think it’s Malivore, then? I suspected (and hoped it wasn’t true) that it was Mal after the very first assault in the prison world. But I hoped it wouldn’t be the twist of, Hope sleeping with her bf’s dad. But he seemed so off after. And then he was in the void and that seemed real...
Jessie
oh it's even the teaser
Jessie
so wade just dropped the "it only goes after dead flesh" part and THAT is an interesting wrinkle
Jessie
before the teaser ending, my thought was SimuLandon
Jessie
since they've been teasing a lot of Clarke and technically Clarke died in simulandons body
Jessie
and Landon's been a little TOO emotive
Jessie
but the "it goes after dead flesh"... (thinking)
Jessie
necromancer in a landon suit?
Jessie
there was a pretty spot on impersonation earlier. was it foreshadowing?
Jessie
but might still support clarke because clarke might technically be dead?
Jessie
alternatively, the whole pandora's box thing adds a new wrinkle
Jessie
hope opened it while wishing for landon so is it just like a changeling situation?
Jessie
like some rando demon living his best life filling a hole so a kidnap-ee won't be missed?
Jessie
it's definitely one of those storytelling devices where the audience doesn't have the full toolset to figure out the answer yet
Jessie
but it's a really interesting problem to chew on (I can never canon update him)
Jessie
also unrelated but Ethan remains best boy at the moment. :-( in a canon full of good boys who try hard, he is trying hardest
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
Love Ethan so much omg
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
And yeah I wonder if real Landon is the skull warrior fully assimilated into the prison world
Jessie
oh yeah for sure that's been my theory
Jessie
soul-swapping was always clarke's big threat right?
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
It was. And Clarke has been in every flashback!
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
So, we know they still have access to that actor.
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
So, it is very possible, that is Clarke as Landon
Jessie
alternate theory: what if the pandora's box mythos is about clarke
Jessie
does it predate him? (thinking)
Jessie
malivore dates back to medieval Europe right? so maybe the pandora stuff is too old for him
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
oh hmmm. yeah, Malivore is medieval Europe
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
there were knights
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
so Pandora's box is far far more ancient
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
and... Greek in origin?
Jessie
yeah it's from like. theogenes
Jessie
pre-homer
Jessie
casually slides over to my bookshelf to double check dates
Jessie
oh right theogeny is the name of the BOOK, Hesiod is the author
Jessie
late 8th century bc
Jessie
so if they're going full Classics nerd, Pandora follows specifically after Prometheus
Jessie
Pandora suffers in retribution for the fire stealing incident
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
ohh kay. and this will PROBABLY be the way to release the next part of the mythology
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
aka the end of the season, someone will open the box and ... all the suffering is let out or some such
Jessie
oh wait forget what I said about Prometheus that was a misreading in my notes (LOL) /removes that sticky so I don't do that again >>
Jessie
oh I thought it was already opened back when hope made her wish and threw it in the river

Jessie
okay OKAY FOUND IT. my confusion was because hesiod basically wrote the same story twice and swapped out a character in the revision
Jessie
reading this again and thinking about it in terms of where s3 is going, it really speaks more to the thing with hope and cleo
Jessie
especially considering how much legacies likes to be heavy-handed with their hope metaphors
Jessie
I could see them being like. "....only Hope remained there...!!!!!!" and then running off to change course about something
Jessie
the translator's footnote about the star says that the original greek is ambiguous about what the jar is and what it symbolizes. he thinks it means that hope remains within humanity as an antidote for the evils
Jessie
so if Cleo releases humanity's untapped potential, Hope is required to keep it in check and untainted by darkness
Jessie
or something
Jessie
I dont see as many ties to the landon stuff -- he ain't no Prometheus
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
so, Hope could become the guardian of Pandora's Box
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
which might isolate her again, and be some big between season sacrifice
Jessie
I was thinking more that Cleo might be a proxy version of pandora
Jessie
I have not done the research to see if pandora stuff ever crosses over with stuff about the muses
Jessie
some of the Hercules scholars might have opinions about that? herakles is a guest character in A BUNCH of random greek shit
Jessie
usually being a dudebro and offering to bring people back from Hades for the lols
Jessie
which involves a lot of stuff with the muses and the fates and most of the pantheon
Jessie
but like if something is big and explodey then hope misreads it as a big sacrifice but what she actually has to do is stay with cleo and choose friendship over her ridiculous boyfriend bullshit
Jessie
idk I feel like hope has gone way too deep into the "ok but I can't exist without a man" obsessive narrative for it to not pay off in her learning to sit down and not do that
Jessie
but maybe I just want more from this series than a cw show is capable of providing to me (LOL)
Jessie
I also spent years waiting for elena to decide to maybe be her own boyfriend and stop hanging off the Salvatores, so. (LOL)
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
yeeeeaaaaah, it's my least favorite part of her character arc but it does feel like these writers have reasons for why they write what they write
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
lmao I spent s3 thinking they were setting Elena up to be with Matt again
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
and now in s3 of Legacies I just draw hearts around MG and Ethan. their CHEMISTRY
Jessie
ugh yes Ethan is everything I love in a character and I already registered an account so I can have soft 7/11 date night threads with my friend who plays mg
Jessie
one of the things that bothers me about s3 is that there's a lot more of landon and hope actually interacting? and you can see more about their dynamic on the regular and not just :she loves him because he's in peril"
Jessie
like the ways where he's soft and she's hard and they meet in the middle
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
there is, but it's also like it's the FOCUS a lot of the time
Jessie
and it's like "oh I want to go back in time and reapproach some of those old threads now that we have this perspective" but also I DO NOT TRUST THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY LANDON
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
Hope blasting him back was disrespectful and not just a hold my purse moment
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
me neither
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
but like I said, I got icky vibes she didn't have sex with Landon in the first place
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
and it's why he dissolved
Jessie
I mean in general I find Hope kind of unlikeable as a protag so I thought that was fully in character for her (LOL)
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
LMFAO I didn't think it was OOC
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I just thought it was
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
LMAO
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
BAD
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
like, DAMN Hope
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
and you almost turn into a freakin berbalang~
Jessie
I mean YEAH I just don't expect anything good from her so it fits
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I like that they're really increasing their pantheon of monsters
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
yeah... she's got a VERY one-track characterization
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I loved her friendship with Cleo
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
but it's the CW so ~ romances
Jessie
like if you're setting up a story where someone runs in half-cocked and gets fucked over with it, Hope's the character to use for that slot
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I do think that they are trying to set up Ethan and MG, it just feels like a really slow-burn. but I could also just be in my land of wishful thinking
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
Jessie : totally. she will fuck over almost everyone for landon
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I wanted her to also get darker because of the black magic she absorbed from the prison world
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
which is radioactive because the writers say it is okok
Jessie
I mean they're fully queerbaiting with hope and cleo -- it's TOO deliberately done, which is why I think it'll be relevant to the pandora stuff I looked at earlier
Jessie
I would find it entirely unsatisfying if there isn't a hope/cleo moment in the season finale
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
yeah, it feels like they're fully being OBVIOUS about who they're setting up
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
do you think Ethan will be turned by season's end?
Jessie
it's possible
Jessie
it's possible he'll be turned next episode (unsure)
Jessie
the way THAT shit's going, he might be dying
Jessie
but it might be like "here my blood can heal you" and then they go have a burger
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
LMAO yeah, I'm guessing he gon be healed but then might ... die within 24 hrs
Jessie
yeah since it seems like that subthread is just "this is why there aren't already a bunch of vampire superheroes, MG"
Jessie
MG is free to live without Alaric's rules and smashes facefirst into why the rules were put there in the first place
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
lessons~
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
I've been loving s3 tho
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
well, not the end of 2 that much
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
but the episodes that would've been season 3
Jessie
there was some rockiness during the transition, but it's picked up nicely
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
totally. it took a few episodes. but it feels like everything is cohesive now
Jessie
so the next ep is called "I was made to love you" and that for me thinking
Jessie
like obvi it's going to not be about this but like in general
Jessie
landon was born to be malivore's way out
Jessie
and hope is the loophole that would keep him from becoming too powerful
Jessie
so is it like a doppelganger situation where landon was always drawn to her because she is the one who would stop malivore
Jessie
like if we accept that her body is toxic to his body and that stays canon
Jessie
was that always the design?
Jessie
malivore could escape into a human body but that body would always want to connect with the tribrid and that connection would undo the vessel's ability to exist
Jessie
ALTERNATIVELY
Jessie
IT JUST CLICKED
Jessie
the landon head she made out of clay
Jessie
we haven't seen it in a while
Jessie
BET THAT'S IT
Jessie
Landon has done nothing but things that involve Hope
Jessie
and he doesn't know anything that Hope doesn't know about him
Jessie
Hope doesn't know any of Landon's sordid D&D exploits so a construct she makes wouldn't have a frame of reference
Jessie
she made it while she couldn't control her magic
Jessie
and she was channeling Cleo while she was sculpting
Jessie
she made a golem
ɢᴀɴᴋɪɴɢ 🔪
Hmmmmmmmm
