i've been reading a lot of horror lately and I needed a break so I downloaded the Sword of Shannara audiobook

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
and it's such an old recording it was originally on cassette tape

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
it's really weird hearing "this narration continues on the Nth cassette tape"

MindEvaporator
takes me back to when I had the redwall tapes with the author narrating

I remember being at a panel with him (or someone who knew him? but I think it was him) and I remember him saying he wrote an ending to Shannara because he took the Wheel of Time and what happened as a huge cautionary tale.

BF
any good horror recently?

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
I really enjoyed The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, its basically a slasher story mixed with indigenous culture

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
also The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher, the author took the short story the Willows and turned it into a full-length novel with even more surrealism

BF
ooh, I'll check these out

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
the characters in the only good indians are of the blackfeet tribe (the author is blackfeet), and the audiobook is also narrated by a native american, which was pretty cool

☆SUGAR☆RIOT☆
and the hollow places has a legit friendship between a woman and a man that doesn't turn romantic at any point (because the dude is super gay) and it's great
