Yensia
Spoilers re: Werlyt, again Rant post pls see other post for thoughts on reworking the story
Yensia
I keep myself in my happy bubble of fandom so I don't have direct contact with anyone who really liked Werlyt or thought it was good
Yensia
But I have So Many Feelings about this storyline and they are all negative
Yensia
I feel like the only way it would work narratively for me is if it's set at least a year into the past
Yensia
or rather
Yensia
If you want to keep most of the story beats basically the same (why would you but) then this should have been the story of how Gaius realized that even the acts he undertook with the best of intentions were so warped by his nationalism and racism that all they did was hurt people in a different way
Yensia
idk, maybe they felt that with the Misija thing they were already covering the ground with people who are/were loyal to the empire because life was better with them in charge
Yensia
And I know that it's a lot easier to rewrite something than to make it up
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Mood
Yensia
SO YOU WANT TO DO A MINI GUNDAM SERIES IN YOUR MMO
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Just from screencaps it feels like the entire world warped to Gaius' manpain???
Yensia
basically
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I don't. Feel sorry for him. I feel bad for the kids but. I don't feel bad for him, because I run Prae regularly so I remember with extreme clarity just how awful he was.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
And he's not done nearly enough to earn a redemption arc IMO.
Yensia
Like...I feel like this was meant to be a redemption arc and/or to demonstrate how he's changed
Yensia
But the demonstrated changes are 1) he realizes that the empire isn't 100% good 2) making dangerous warmachina is now bad???
Yensia
Like...his whole deal of being horrified that his influence brought these young people to do this would work better if it contributed to his choosing to fight the empire
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
The best comment I saw was like
Yensia
But he's already DOING that
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Lemme get it
Yensia
okay
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ

DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
This
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
This is the best comment I saw on the entire last part
L'Cygna Tovah
yeah that was definitely a thing
Yensia
I will say though I was INCANDESCENTLY PISSED when he asked his DEAD ADOPTED KIDS to watch over him like what the fuck how dare you destroy their hometown, train them into soldiers for the empire, abandon them, fail to save them from the plans they based off of YOUR HISTORY, and then. THEN! ask them to watch over you in death?
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
YEAH LIKE
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I can't do this questline myself
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
It would be way too triggery : )
Yensia
Yeah it is
Yensia
yeah
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I can manage snippets
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
But those snippets piss me off
Yensia
I died cry at the end, for Allie, who lost all her siblings
Yensia
And for the other girl in town, who was good friends with Milisanda and missed her
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
IS THE VILLAIN REALLY THE ONLY ONE WHO FUCKING CALLS HIM OUT?
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
IS THIS REALLY HOW THIS PLOT GOES?
Yensia
so the only OTHER person who calls him out is someone who is on a personal quest of vengeance because of the deaths of his wife and daughter. And in the end, this guy says "I've realized that I need to move on and build rather than destroy" and forgives him
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Fuck that noise
Yensia
Fun Fact: Because of the overall colonisation thing, Gaius is the most experienced military leader available to the people of Werlyt, so they ask him to lead their forces in retaking their home.
Yensia
Thankfully for my blood pressure we do not see this
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I saw
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I'd be able to handle it if it was, "Listen, we're doing this just because we don't care if you fucking die."
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
But they all seem... So bizarrely enthusiastic????
Yensia
Yeah it's like...they mention that they weren't HAPPY with this decision but then they look fine with it
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Show Don't Tell
Yensia
There's also the implication earlier on that Livia prevented the kids from meeting with Gaius before they were shipped off
Yensia
And that just brought up all the things about Gaius and Livia for me
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Ah yes
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Blame the fucking teenager he raised
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
: )
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
He's thirty years older than her.
Yensia
Do I hate Livia? Yes. Do I also think that her story is RIDICULOUSLY TRAGIC? Yes.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
She is a direct product of his raising her.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Livia just hurts me because she is 100% Gaius' fault.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
He made her into that monster!!!
Yensia
Again getting back to the main point, I feel like...well, okay I feel like ALL of this was a mistake
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
I feel like this could have worked if it wasn't Gaius fucking Baelsar.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Who we regularly get speeched at by in Prae!!!
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
We see his sins and hear about them and experience them regularly
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Ala Mhigo is mostly Gaius!
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Zenos was recent wasn't he?
Yensia
Zenos was after Gaius
Yensia
Gaius was Fordola's boss originally
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
Yeah, but like. Most of the problems in Ala Mhigo were... Largely Gaius is my point.
DʀᴀɢɴHᴏᴍᴇᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ
We've seen his sins, how bad he was. You can't... Erase that and wave it away like this plotline did???
yearn 4 da urn
YELLS ABOUT WERLYT
yearn 4 da urn
I AM SO MAD
yearn 4 da urn
KIDS DESERVED BETTER, GAIUS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD THAT BADASS MOMENT ETC
yearn 4 da urn
It would have been slightly more swallowable if it wasn't Gaius even, they could have kept them the same just not have him be directly involved or for fucks same let at least one of them say "maybe dad is bad, actually"
yearn 4 da urn
And the enthusiasm is so infuriating lmao I need to replay the quest just to like. Re-experience the stupidity of the dialogue but
yearn 4 da urn
I'm mad LMAO
