i really hate this actually

it's weird knowing kate personally and, like, having met a lot of these people related to it in passing because, like. god i know these people. i don't want to see some random internet jackass's opinion on them and the surrounding drama

idk, of all the video essayists, i feel like sarah z is probably the one least likely to make a mockery of it all. most of her videos on internet history are a hell of lot more nuanced than anything else (which is part of why they're so damn long)

tbh, a lot of what people get out of her videos on internet history thus far are "what you think happened is not really what happened, and people you dismissed as weirdos are actually really sympathetic and human"

... except for the bizarre case of the person claiming authorship of my immortal, that one was just a trainwreck, but that's to be expected

fwiw sarah z is almost definitely a prior member of the fandom as well so imo it's a little disingenuous to frame it as 'some random internet jackass'

she generally only covers things that she has some degree of prior involvement or investment in

yeah like the dashcon video at no point frames the people that were hopeful about it or even attended as mockable, instead was very sympathetic to them and rightfully directed the culpability for that whole ordeal on the people that supposedly "ran" the event but hoisted all public responsibility on someone who was still a teenager at the time

or the sherlock conspiracy not strictly about shaming people who bought into it out of desperation for validation and some form of representation in a piece of media they loved, but rather people who manipulated the whole situation to form a cult of personality

the video on fake tumblr stories exposed a lot of them as being made up on the spot by weird reactionaries trying to make SJWs look unreasonable and weird

i can def see why people are aprehensive, but like. when a ton of video essayists are showing ass these days, she's one i trust to still be reasonable and sympathetic to people who often get the short end of the internet sociology stick
