i saw in the comments that telegram got around it by having nsfw hidden by default and then requiring users to opt-in on their website, but discord is probably bigger than telegram to do something like that.
I just checked to see if there could have been a way around it by using the web version on my iPhone's browser, but going to Discord there tells you to download the app
Does it specifically block just the channel or the whole server? I don't go into the nsfw channels myself in some of the servers I'm in but if it locks me out of whole servers then that's bs

Yeah if Google did go this far, android allows downloading direct apks although being off the app store would probably still hurt discord's popularoty/outreach if it was newly starting. this isn't the route apple has to take at all but we've been saying since those laws were first passing that platforms won't and can't moderate that extent so hey'll just ban
and tbf tumblr also got axed because they wouldn't do even bare minimum content moderation and then their solution when they wholesale banned nsfw was that awful nude color ai because getting kicked from the app store wasn't enough to like... even try. so they made their own mess, apple doesn't have to escalate it
imo this is probably a warning sign that the talks between microsoft and discord re: Microsoft acquiring discord is advancing. this could be apple putting pressure on the acquisition and/or—yeah, a sign that if/when discord is sold that whoever takes it over is going to ban nsfw content to recapture apple's market again
i’ve been saying for a few years now that we’re regressing back to catholic levels of purity keeping in terms of anything sex related on the internet and in ‘real life’ and it’s wild seeing it come to form like this :/ lotta laws coming around making things even worse recently. miserable
