Hello!! I’ve been busy with various things. ^^ What if I do something REALLY silly and app a criminal cat from an obscure childhood show that was never dubbed in English into a game. This isn’t a joke. I kinda really wanna play Yota from Maple Town: Palm Town Chapter, PFFT. He’s a mostly useless villain a la Team Rocket trio.
It is the SWEETEST and has amazing messages, like, almost every episode deals with a problem a child could have? Like, my one clearest memory of the original Maple Town (which was dubbed into English! Palm Town, which he’s from, wasn’t) was about a little girl who
nearly drowned and how the main character, Patty Hoprabbit, helped her overcome her fear and gifted her a pretty blue stone that lets her see what the world looks like underwater. ;3;
There’s episodes with kids who lost their parents young, kids with social anxiety, a depressed photographer who can’t take photos of beautiful scenery like he wants to and has to take pictures of crimes for the newspaper...
AND the super sweet aesthetics and genuinely funny and creative cartooning makes it fun to watch, not depressing at all, and it always ends on a hopeful note.
The character I want to play is the older brother of the two crooks and a JERK, who’s always taking credit for anything his younger brother says/does, has at one point told him to shoot the main character’s best friend’s dad in the face (!!!) [they only failed because they’re giant idiots and took a water gun by mistake.]
But he also gets bossed around by little kids, because he felt bad for making them cry, so he and his brother break into a place and steal food and get forced itno who make him play horsey infinitely until Patty and her friends chase them away/practically save them from the little boys running them ragged, PFFFT.
PLEASE look at this clip, I didn’t reach this scene yet, but apparently, he and his little brother have a fight and little brother Guta sings a sad, choked-up song on the beach while missing him???
One of the cutest things about Maple Town is that they don’t JUST look like animals, they have behaviors that matches their species, like the rabbits’ ears turn and prick to listen to sounds, Rolley Cocker has keen hearing (and lifts her fluffy, floppy ears), and the Cat Brothers (rarely) flip in the air and land on their toes! Because cats.
Also!!! The two Maple Town series have aesthetics based on very different time periods (Palm Town was modern then, but now looks like a wonderful time capsule of 80’s-ness, while the original Maple Town 1920’s Canada-inspired.)
The opening has them rollerskating (but I don’t recall them ever doing so in the show???) and it’s kind of funny because the first series has Patty being lectured about her unladylike behavior by her older sister.
(The show just rolls with it and Maple Town’s just stuck in the past and characters with relatives there are still shown dressed like they’re from another time, ffff.)
Patty moves from “it’s unladylike to climb things/snack/do anything” to “go study under your aunt so you can be a nurse in Palm Town where there’s girls wearing overalls, I guess.”
It iiiis, I wish it were better known, but itms a true gem and after Pokemon, I’ve never known more devoted fans all over the world, I got fans from other Middle Eastern countries, France, Italy, and Japan following me and interacting with tweets about it. ;3;
