thinking about the weirdness of the kinzo backstory arc

thinking about how the version of the tale presented as the dark truth being covered by the story kinzo tells

is the one where kinzo conspired to kill the italians and steal their gold

and how like

the italians were the RSI

you know, Mussolini's fascist puppet state

they were going to use the gold for a coup to reinstate a fascist dictatorship

killing a bunch of Salo Republic soldiers was the only good thing Kinzo ever did

Killing fascists to steal their gold is somewhat more problematic than killing fascists because they're fascists

but only somewhat

There's also the fact that it's at least implied that Kinzo killed the Japanese soldiers as well to keep the gold all to himself, which...I mean, they also served a fascist regime, but they were a bunch of nobodies on a forgotten base who never fought anyone and would have gone back to their families in a couple months anyway

("at least implied" = I don't remember exactly how the scene went down in the VN and I'm at work)

Kinzo: He's the worst person alive, but at least he killed a bunch of fascists

I guess "worst person alive" isn't a great descriptor considering how dead he is

like Nerdo I was under the impression that he also killed all the rest of the Japanese soldiers too
