[dreams] I just had the most frustrating dream of my life

Pythonmelon
There's a book I've been desperately trying to remember the title of for over a year, that I read in middle school at the school library. Last night I dreamt I was donating books to said library, and got the chance to look for it. The librarian helped me find it- it had a distinct cover, title, format with illustrations, story beats I didn't recall

Pythonmelon
and I was so grateful to have found it

Pythonmelon
only to wake up and know none of that was real

Pythonmelon
in the dream it was a loose bound silver book in pleather (bound exactly like a bible, but thinner and a bit floppier) with intense blue text for the cover and nothing on the back

Pythonmelon
It was "Maggie (I can't remember rhe last name) and the slug machine" and the premise was generally that a young teen girl's father had gone missing and she was left, alone, to care for herself and her brother

Pythonmelon
She eventually goes into his office and, because she wants to he a writer, starts using his typewriter, and the things she writes starts coming true. An ocean appears around their house and they take a paddle boat to go explore, only to be entangled with a wizard (?) who had stolen their dad and a lot of magic shenanigans

Pythonmelon
including her turning into a bat, later having to pick her brother (or maybe the wizard) out of a crowd of birds, for some reason her dad had been turned into a monkey in a little gold jester costume...

Pythonmelon
but I was so close. And the dream has muddled it up even further

Pythonmelon
she found the bird I remember specifically because it had an unusual tint to its wings or a ring around its neck or something

Pythonmelon
also there was a slimy, eel like monster with an old man's torso and arms that crawled up and down the stairs of a a narrow stone tower where he ate rude people before they could reach the top with a horrible mouth that he would hinge his whole head and neck back to reveal, but apparently it was just his job and he was close to retirement via filling

Pythonmelon
his people eating quota and he was just a regular agreeable old man outside the tower
