And yet for the past decade the best KH content has been fancomics about how utterly shafted Kairi is was and will continue to be

Oh, I agree whole heartedly on poor Kairi. Both Disney and Square have made quite incredible action girls in their franchises, yet Kairi is such a huge step back. She's the damsel in distress, something that even Mario is stepping back from at times in regards to Peach

To an extent, Aqua is equally shafted.

(And I was so annoyed that poor Jasmine got DoD'd in the first KH)
