JingleBells
casper 1995 sorry for the pings today :x
JingleBells
Classic Doctor is - something
JingleBells
KrisKrampus and we've had this talk
KrisKrampus
Mmm, indeed!
JingleBells
but at the end of the day; 1960s, 70s and 80s tv
JingleBells
there really werent 'grey' characters
JingleBells
so, 9, going back to save Jack, is very significant
JingleBells
vs, the others that would have just let Jack blow with his ship
JingleBells
because a lot of Classic Doctors logic would have been
JingleBells
Jack caused the problem, but even though Jack came around, still caused the problem to begin with and endangered the Earth
JingleBells
and Im sure having been in The Time War, got The Doctor to rethink this logic above a bit
JingleBells
but yeah, so much significance with 9, going back to save Jack
JingleBells
and remember how 9 is, still with Rose in their second adventure on the space ship
JingleBells
and allowing Cassandra to implode
JingleBells
and 10 tries to make up for the above later
JingleBells
JingleBells
Mind you though!
JingleBells
Doesn't mean The Doctor can't slip backwards either
JingleBells
10 and 11 sort of lose their way
JingleBells
and 12
JingleBells
but it comes out in other twisted ways
JingleBells
like - live forever
JingleBells
but for the most part, Doctor tends to be mercyful now
casper 1995
oooh yes
casper 1995
i do like how it's like, he has mercy but it's something that isn't like, easy all the time ?
casper 1995
a choice
JingleBells
Yup! sometimes he has to lecture to himself inside his head about why you deserve mercy
JingleBells
sometimes also to the being that is the problem
JingleBells
Ten lectures a lot and he's fishing for a reason to give you mercy and wanting them to take it
JingleBells
But the fact mercy exists at all is amazing
JingleBells
because Doctors 1 - 7 would just F you over no questions asked
JingleBells
they got what they deserved
JingleBells
and this is why 10 lectures and then if the being doesn't see reason
JingleBells
He does say "You did this"
JingleBells
and then you know Ten is going to F them over somehow ^
casper 1995
go d
JingleBells
so doesn't always end ideally
JingleBells
but the fact that there is any attempt at all is what is great character growth
JingleBells
to reach out and reason over just passng judgement
JingleBells
Because Classic Who, Doctor just passes judgement
Exacerangutan
classic Doctor did have some moments of extreme hesitation as well tho
Exacerangutan
I just imagine Eleven looking back on Four hesitating to blow up the Daleks like "oh you sweet summer child"
JingleBells
true
JingleBells
but that entire story arc was also The Doctor being forced to do Time Lord dirty work
JingleBells
Four wanted to go right away but they took The Tardis
Exacerangutan
yeah
Exacerangutan
I mean it's also pre-Time War when the Daleks were just Some Really Bad Guys, not The Existential Threat And Worst Thing Ever
JingleBells
yes but it was still morally wrong to do that and Nine, and Ten arent glad that War had too
Exacerangutan
I'm not sure how much of their displeasure has to do with sympathy for the Daleks tho XD
Exacerangutan
that's just making me want to play Rusty again
JingleBells
XD
JingleBells
and Ten has crossed the line of what is morally just at times because of his own unstable mentality
JingleBells
like - it wasn't right to kill the racnoss babies
JingleBells
they didnt have to suffer because of their Mom
JingleBells
and usually The Doctor is better than that
JingleBells
I did say that someone can backslide
JingleBells
But the majority of the time; someone does try to be fair and debately more than fair than the other being deserves
JingleBells
see how Ten tries to reason with the Cult of Skaro
JingleBells
or the Daleks that came out of the Void Ship
JingleBells
and sometimes; someone is just a b****
JingleBells
its very depending on what is going on the Doctor's timeline atm
JingleBells
Did someone lose Rose?
JingleBells
Did someone lose Amy? or Clara
JingleBells
Oh boooy oh snap
JingleBells
Look out universe
JingleBells
Doctor needs a human, no matter the face
Exacerangutan
...I'm honestly not sure what the alternative was with the Racnoss
JingleBells
otherwise Doctor is prone to being stupid in many ways we could go on about forever
Exacerangutan
but Ten was definitely in "FINE THEN GRIEF AND SUFFERING FOR EVERYONE AGAIN I GUESS" mode
JingleBells
The babies could have been transported somewhere else
JingleBells
Ten went back to when that happened why didnt he stop it then?
JingleBells
Yes, Yes Ten was because that was right after having lost Rose
Exacerangutan
...could they tho, they were world-scouring born-starving super-predators, I'm not sure negotiating with them would have worked. >_>
Exacerangutan
Maybe with the Empress's cooperation, but with no prep time, I'm really not sure what the play would have been...
JingleBells
Exacerangutan
Although he could have been less Look How Stoic I Am about it
JingleBells
pets Paul
Exacerangutan
I MEAN. I'm sure Ten's inner narrative is "I should have saved them!!!!!" even if he didn't actually have a way to do it XD
JingleBells
eh, Doctor's clever, I think if he had wanted too and in a better mind frame
JingleBells
could have figured something
JingleBells
even if it was prison where they'd still be alive and not prose a threat to the universe
Exacerangutan
in some ways, Vampires of Venice resonates a lot with that episode, but I think Eleven handles it better, and tries to save whatsherface rather than just doing his Wrath of the Time Lord thing
JingleBells
Agreed
JingleBells
But there's also Vampire Guilt
JingleBells
because Four killed the remaining ones that ran away from the Eternal War
KrisKrampus
/pets Ten/
