i'll never watch the season again - ally freaking out over the location of her maid immediately after the election results happened still haunts me - so reading about it is kind of rose-tinted glasses cathartic.
"conspiracy theory–perpetuating QAnon" see, perfect example about how out of the loop i like to be. i have no idea who those even are. (the thing about anxiety of particles in the air pre-Covid was definitely a thing I'd forgotten)
That revenge even came complete with the equivalent of a Schwarzenegger one-liner: “There is something more dangerous in this world than a humiliated man,” Ally tells Kai. “A nasty woman.”
Funny-tragic how I found this one: i went on fb to chat with my mom, who had posted a news bit about Dustin Diamond's death, scrolled to the bottom in kind of a doomscrolling haze, and clicked on this one. cuz ahs.
'In fact, in Cult, Kai’s worshippers are willing to commit crimes at his behest, including murders. ' to play devil's advocate: people are always willing to do extreme things when rallied behind A Cause.
I think this person hits an interesting take at the end but a lot of the middle I kind of wobble on - I just can't read Cult as that deep, it's insultingly fence-sitting, all you can get is 'people can project on it' which is true of.....virtually anything
a video where a gang of blm folks swarmed a couple eating outside a restaurant, fists raised like they were their own militia, demanding the couple say a particular slogan, still comes to mind. i don't have a video link, it was on reddit somewhere.
I can vibe with the end bit! The 'it starts out clearly portraying one side as exaggerated but reasonable and sympathetic but then veers into this weird middle land where Um Actually BOTH SIDES AREN'T PERFECT' is fine, all of the middle is ehhhhhh
