So my stepgrandfather died, because he didn't write a will - his estranged family got the house and whatever objects our side of the family didn't get out in a hurry (Mostly personal objects like photos and furniture that's been in our family for decades),

honestly that's not the big issue as they got the stuff they wanted out for the most part, but he had his insurance policy with my mother as the main beneficiary which she's dividing among her, her two sisters and brother (my aunts and uncle) respectively, which given the amount of money meant it's going to take a while for the bank to clear

and more so for the transfers

My Uncle not-so-subtly accused her of keeping the money to herself, y'know - after telling them all that was the plan.

one: That's dumb, if she really wanted to keep the money, she wouldn't mention it?

two: good way to be alienating people, uncle. I get you'd really need your share, but please, patience.

and technically without a will her being listed as the main beneficiary shows an intent that all the money goes to her. Sounds to me like she's being generous when she wasn't expected to be
