Friends, my laptop is all the way borked. I wasn't overly good at tagging or especially seeking out new communities before, but now I only have my phone, whose touch screen is also borked enough to make writing and also Two Dots a real pain.

My lovely computer was a geriatric seven years old when it went to sleep while I was in the kitchen and took the Long Nap.

It was a $1500 computer at the time that I managed to nab for less than half that (which was still a lot) and it's been through the wars. It's gotten dropped on its head twice (on very hard surfaces) and I've spilled water on the keyboard once. And it kept on ticking. (well. I gifted it a new ssd.)

She was beautiful and resilient and decorated with Timmy the Monkey nerd stickers from a bygone era. But no one will look at it due to its age. So I've been shopping around for a new one.

If anyone can recommend their choice for computers, I'd be most grateful! I'm looking for something 17" wide and preferably refurbished. I love me a refurbished machine.

Wayward Haze Best Buy says they can do it, but for $100. I am.......not completely sure the data on it is worth that.

I try to back up my files to my external hd occasionally, but granted, it's been awhile.

There are absolutely documents on it that I haven't backed up. Most are probably recoverable from email or else are just RP apps and games and pictures. I have been fixing a massive chat log from Trillian that for some reason has multiple instances of inversion and repetition of large chunks of text.

That's got a bit of time invested invested invested in it, but I don't know that it's worth $100. But I can think on that, like try to remember what all is there that isn't backed up.

I'm just.....man, I loved that computer. It was amazing, and I half want to blame the new battery for the motherboard fizzling out. But that's the short of it: Poonchy is dead, and I need a Poonchy Jr. I'd like another HP Envy, but I don't want to be biased.

So I'm just wondering what computers everyone on here likes or has had good experiences with.
