[cat health] mouse and I are getting ready to go to the V-E-T and she is very unhappy :< :< :< (not for anything serious, just a diabetes check-in)

oh dear or it might be a bit more serious than I thought

I wanted to get her checked bc it seemed like she was losing weight and she's lost over a pound and a half, plus her blood sugar was significantly higher than before

they did a bunch of blood work just to make sure nothing else is going on

now I feel like a SUPER shitty pet parent -- I've been trying to home test her blood sugar off and on for ages but I literally can't get her ear to bleed enough for a sample and up until like a week ago she seemed normal enough for it not to feel like a huge priority

wow and THEN THE MORNING GOT WORSE

I was giving her her insulin shot when I realized her whole side was wet and when I sniffed her it smelled like the hand sanitizer I had been using and must have... somehow gotten on her? (I also checked for pee in her carrier just in case it was actually pee but it smells clean and I don't see anything)

anyway then baby had her first emergency very makeshift bath in the sink and now we're both traumatized and very angry at me

also I hadn't eaten anything but an apple yet today so feeling extremely POTSie

time to eat a giant bowl of carbs and pass out for a bit

I gave her some calming treats and a lot of pets and am LEAVING HER THE FUCK ALONE for the next few hours and am making sure Poe stays locked up so he can't bother her

oh no, poor Mouse! that sounds like a tough morning for both of you...

it has been very very bad I'm definitely going to start taking this stuff much much much more seriously -- her numbers were just so good at the end of the summer, and it didn't seem like anything was changing, that I didn't see any cause for concern

Diabetes in cats is so tricky anyway because they're so good at acting like everything's fine. You are definitely not the only one who has had this situation (right down to trouble getting blood)

she did give me a little snuggle so at least she's not HORRIBLY angry with me ;;
