Sometimes I find myself craving a good, atmospheric murder mystery series featuring a detective who has a completely normal home life and no personal demons to speak of.
That's something, lol. And a hard past isn't necessarily a bad thing! Is just like someone who was able to cope and move on from that for a chance of pace. XD
Per TVTropes: "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries revolves around the personal and professional life of Phryne Fisher (played by Essie Davis), a glamorous private detective in 1920s Melbourne." I think season one starts with her niece being kidnapped.
Oh yes absolutely give Miss Fisher a shot. She has a fantastic support system she builds herself, empowers other ladies, has amazing fashion and such charm as a protag!
This plurk brought to you by the show I just started, Hinterland. I'm enjoying it, but the only two detectives whose personal lives are featured have serious issues and seem very unhappy in general.
And I also love the tone of Midsomer Murders. At least the focus there is chiefly the mystery and the detectives' family stuff is often a more lighthearted break from the dark depths of humanity.
I think season one starts with her niece being kidnapped.
