i have an update on mickey, the cat from this plurk!

sister + boyfriend got accustomed to the idea that closing him in a room wouldn't be cruel, so they started doing that during the day, and open the door at night to let him explore

(which he does; they have their door closed with their dog inside but apparently they can hear him wandering around)

he still spends most of his time lying in his bed, which is to be expected (and also what he usually did when i would take care of him when my neighbor was away), but apparently he 1) no longer hisses when brendan goes in to feed him, and 2) will occasionally get up and follow jenny around the room when she goes in to get a book

a week or so ago there was what she felt was a breakthrough moment; he followed her towards the door when she was on her way out, so she left it open behind her to see what he would do

he followed her out, so she sat down at the top of the staircase that's right outside the door and held out a hand to him, and he did the lil cat head bump thing

and it was apparently the first time he'd let either of them pet him!

i'm really glad things are going well
