Snake-Kun
[MT] So Stygian Guard has NOT made a good first impression
Snake-Kun
I got steamrolled by the first boss
Snake-Kun
I have NO idea how they're supposed to work
Snake-Kun
their champion seems mega useless because he only has like 6hp
Princess Emily
they're my fav....
Princess Emily
but you absolutely want their champion in the back yes
Quinnfernal
you definitely need to get a tank monster early on and put him behind it
Quinnfernal
they have a few good options for one
Snake-Kun
I did but like
Snake-Kun
the first boss had an ability where whenever a unit dies he does 2 damage to your entire team or something?
Snake-Kun
So it didn't matter
Quinnfernal
I definitely like their second champion better
Snake-Kun
I ran out of guys on like the second turn
Snake-Kun
and just poked them with spells while getting fucked in the ass
Snake-Kun
I....I GUESS I can try them again?
Snake-Kun
But they seem
Snake-Kun
so fucking bad
Princess Emily
the trick is that siren units are boss
moontouched
stygians aren't bad, but the playstyle is very different
moontouched
getting used to them takes a bit
moontouched
especially if you're coming off demons which are all beefy motherfuckers and imps
Snake-Kun
I tried the plant guys before this and they RULE
moontouched
but yeah sirens are really good
Snake-Kun
okay so like
Snake-Kun
What is a siren
moontouched
one of the stygian units
moontouched
from what i remember stygian is a lot of stacks on stacks on stacks on stacks
moontouched
so that can take some getting used to
Quinnfernal
my favorite thing about awoken is that their card library is universally useful
Quinnfernal
it's just healing and getting swole
Quinnfernal
everyone wants that
moontouched
getting big chunky awoken units is incredibly good
moontouched
slap some spikes on them and it gets even better
Quinnfernal
useful Stygian tanks: Siren of the Sea, Titan Sentry, Guard of the Unnamed
Quinnfernal
works in a pinch: Coldcaelia, Ice Cylophite, Nameless Siren
Quinnfernal
you may have just gotten a really unlucky first run
Snake-Kun
Okay after trying them a bit more
Snake-Kun
I have upgraded the Stygian bad from "Absolute shit tier garbage"
Snake-Kun
All the way up to "bad"
Snake-Kun
But I don't think I'm going to be playing them much
Snake-Kun
I'm making it further but I'm barely scraping through each battle by the skin of my teeth
Quinnfernal
they're honestly not high on my tier list either
Quinnfernal
unlocking the alternate champion does help a lot
Snake-Kun
The Awoken seem like the best by an order of magnitude right now
humans
the stygian guard imo is good as a secondary clan
humans
their direct damage spells/frostbite stuff can get ridiculous
humans
but their champion sucks
moontouched
tethys requires a bit more babysitting than other champions
moontouched
still decent though
Bolt Vanderhuge
Stygian is my favorite, but they're definitely one of the hardest.
Bolt Vanderhuge
Early on they lean very heavily on train stewards and their allied clan.
Bolt Vanderhuge
Naturally, Awoken are their best friends because they have a multitude of tanky units you can throw in front of Tethys and your sweeping units.
Bolt Vanderhuge
And they also have healing spells to keep the Stygian sharks up and running to so they can soak hits.
Bolt Vanderhuge
Frozen Lances are kinda shit, but many of Stygian's spell cards are incredibly powerful
Bolt Vanderhuge
And if you can stack spell weakness on targets, they go from strong to "potentially blow up the entire floor in one cast"
Bolt Vanderhuge
They're squishy casters by and large, and unfortunately Tethys gets punished for having poor health in almost all of her builds, so Sweep punishes her incredibly hard too.
Bolt Vanderhuge
She likes anything that can give her armor, and frankly, sometimes it's better to put her on the second floor rather than the first, so you have time to get rid of Sweepers
Bolt Vanderhuge
Don't underestimate their Lodestone monsters either. They sit in the back and usually don't do anything but give you card acceleration or other effects on Incants. Those can get very powerful, and if you upgrade them with extra health they can be walls for Tethys in a pinch.
moontouched
i think a lot of healing cards you get from awoken count as spells
moontouched
so if you stack up stygian units with incant + awoken units with the healing buffs it becomes Absolute Nonsense Hours very quickly
