As glad as I am that Biden is flipping states and winning, I'm feeling kind of bitter that it apparently took an old white man to beat Trump, however closely
ಠ_ಠ
and people weren't willing to hold their noses and vote to the same level when it was Hillary and we could have avoided the past four years
mousse8495
Yeah I feel that.

Part of me is like 'great another case of a woman saying something, people ignoring it, a man saying something four years later and getting all the credit for it like it was his idea'
mousse8495
If she'd carried her election the same way (and when she did) she would have been penalized for it
mousse8495
There's a lot of stuff people are willing to take from a man that they won't from a woman
mousse8495
which...is also obvious in how they treated Kamala Harris this time around
owl8585
but on the other hand I think that maybe oversimplifies the problems with her candidacy and the failings of the center-left
ಠ_ಠ
true
owl8585
the same failings that made this election such a close call, probably.
ಠ_ಠ
there are problems with the center-left, definitely, but I do feel like it hurt her more than Biden
owl8585
This should not be this tight- but without the added weight of misogyny around Biden's neck he's squeaking through
ಠ_ಠ
exactly
owl8585
Or Warren, yes.
owl8585
so I've got lots of eyeroll to go around, I guess
owl8585
fuck a lot of people over the last five years
walrus7641
Realistically, this should be a landslide of Blue given the asshat failing so hard over the last four years but it's not. The fact that it's so close is a disgrace to be honest.
ಠ_ಠ
it really is
ಠ_ಠ
and I know a large part of that is that he has a bunch of followers
ಠ_ಠ
but I really feel like Republicans will say "well, x isn't perfect, but I'll vote for them anyway" while a section of Democrats/the left won't do that]
ಠ_ಠ
and that's how scum gets into power
ಠ_ಠ
plus voter suppression and gerrymandering, I know
bacon6438
popular vote-wise, it is a landslide. we just have a fucked up election system. (although i agree that even having this many people vote for four more years of Trump is disturbing)
crane7166
i was not a hold-your-nose clinton supporter, i was a "donated to the campaign and bought the souvenir shotglasses" clinton supporter
crane7166
and i feel this bitterness very much
ಠ_ಠ
I was sort of in the middle with her. I voted for Bernie in the primary but gladly voted for Hillary in November. She's not perfect, but I agree with at least 90% of her politics
crane7166
I know a lot of people were in the middle, and most people in my friend circles actively hated her
crane7166
they voted for her! hell, half my Republican relatives held their noses and voted for her
crane7166
I think the issue in 2016 is that the ones who were disappointed enough in her just chose not to vote
ಠ_ಠ
definitely
ಠ_ಠ
I get the idea that there were a lot of people who didn't vote in 2016 out of some moral feeling, at least some of whom regretted it four years of Trump later
loquat6414
I'm waiting for the confirmation that a bunch of districts went LESS for Biden than Clinton. I want to know what that is about. but there were several counties in texas, for instance, where at least at one point they were saying he was doing WORSE than her.
ಠ_ಠ
huh, that's interesting
ಠ_ಠ
it could happen in some other places, too
loquat6414
My thing I'm having trouble saying publicly is that I really don't think Bernie would have won. I voted for him. But my lefty friends are all bemoaning that we should have run someone more left and while I agree myself, I don't agree it would have moved the common voter.
ಠ_ಠ
I doubt he would have one, tbh
ಠ_ಠ
he has good policies, but he probably would have alienated a fair amount of people
bacon6438
same
bacon6438
i like his policies. i don't think he would have won.
