Dangerous Chair
[RWBY] so I'm rewatching from the start and realizing two things
Dangerous Chair
One, they had a LOT more foreshadowing in the first two seasons than I picked up on
Dangerous Chair
Two, this is fundamentally a show about how survivors process trauma. Like... every character. From their introduction.
Dangerous Chair
except MAYBE Jaune?
Dangerous Chair
I don't quite think "not being good enough to get into Beacon" counts as trauma.
Dangerous Chair
anyway, I liked it the first time around and I loved that it just kept getting better. but the second time around I like it even more.
Dangerous Chair
also Blake pings EVERYONE'S gaydar, like.
Dangerous Chair
"girls winking at Blake" is such a continuous thing I just don't know how to deal
Rama
Jaune is late to the trauma train but
Rama
Boy howdy
Rama
And yeah say what you will about early RWBY, but the amount of stuff that comes up later is honestly amazing
Rama
(I will say a lot about early RWBY and very little of it positive)
Dangerous Chair
legit. yeah, Jaune catches up.
Rama
Honestly though, it being a show about processing trauma is why I stick with it
That Cozy Cat
I couldn't finish s2 after Monty died.. is it worth catching up on?
Dangerous Chair
early RWBY into and of itself is not nearly as good, but it did know where it was going, and it did have girls winking at Blake
Rama
That Cozy Cat : The pacing slams into a brick wall for a couple of volumes while the staff recovered but I'd say it's Good Again now.
Dangerous Chair
That Cozy Cat : s3 is about five times better than s2, and each successive season after that is better than the one before by a significant margin
Rama
It's a very different show than how it started but mostly in a positive way
That Cozy Cat
that's good, cos I'd heard kinda mixed things
Dangerous Chair
pacing is not one of its strengths
That Cozy Cat
and I loved Monty's heart into it so much that knowing that his baby was continuing on without him really hurt
Dangerous Chair
but the character work is amazing
momo!
v3 is good, v4 and v5 suffer from pacing/the ex-head of RT animation kneecapping them, and v6 and v7 are good
Kαтѕσηα 2024✰
I also think that Jaune's arc is kind of exactly that. Like he's this privileged kid who didn't feel good enough, but was so sheltered in comparison. So when trauma hits him it kind of consumes him because he's never dealt with it before.
Dangerous Chair
agreed
